I, like most others commenting here was brought up (dragged?) in a religious private school in Austrlaia. Couldn't wait to get out of the place as soon as year 12 was done with. The only good thing these schools have going for them (and even that is being whittled away by the politically correct pol...

Not sure what they call them in Thailand, but in the Phillipines it would be known as a "Tookoo". Smaller varieties (we know as Gekkos) are called a Tiki. The names are based largely on the nioses the littler buggers make at night in your ceiling !! Well, in the Phillipines anyway. I thoug...

Charlesh, Depending on what sort of housing you are looking for.... a good friend of mine (also sometime Aussie) runs a real estate business in HH, but focused on the higher end of the market. Golf-side, waterside resorts, etc. I'm not sure if I will get chastised of mentioning the name of a non-spo...

Hey Randy, Do you know if the sunshine coverage extends into mid-town areas? In particular in / around the night-Markets (sorry can't recall the name of the road), also there is a Thai theatre / restaurant nearby. I am thinking of sending my GF/BG a laptop for her Birthday (so we can email instead o...

Sorry Guys, I guess I am a bit biased. on my first visit to HH I strolled into Toro for no other reason than it was "Next in line", but met a BG there whom I have been seeing (when I can) ever since. Whenever I do make it Back to HH i actually stay with her at a share house where many of t...

Procyon, well, thats kinda what I was thinking... setting up a LARGE dish for a downlink, using terrestrial services for outbound traffic only (or delay-sensitive traffic such as VOIP {Skype, etc}), and massive kick-ass proxy servers. who knows might help a little

What does HHAD (members) have against Toro ?

I'm interested to know.... have ppl generally had more bad reports than good, or is it something else. I practically lived there for a week and found them to be most hospitable. I do note that once I was "Known" I seemed (via my lady friend) to get moved of the pool table rather quickly wh...

DSL

Nereus is mostly correct. The physical speed attainable on any given DSL service is a function of the distance between the user and the DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexor), the diameter of the copper cable in use, and the number of junctions (reflection points) in the whole path, inlcuding all the bodgy ...
