Not a witch, Mags & HHD - an active practicer of Wicca. Sounds much nicer :D

You're absolutely correct, Dawn, but how many people know about Wiccans versus those that *think* they know about witches?

Probably not a lot know the difference I'm afraid, but yes Dawn, Wicca is the more genuine title. Reading what others have said on here, particularly experiences with Catholic based education, it makes even more sense to me to worship the elements!
I wonder if they preached to the poor kids at that childrens home in Jersey where they are still digging for bodies?

Funnily enough, I was driving up the back road from HH to Elephant Village yesterday and passed a very new looking Jehova's Witnesses hall - sign of the times??!

I have had many Wiccans as students and from all I have read and seen of it. . it is a wonderful way to live. They have two things very right that the Christians have not. They hold that women are equal to men and their belief system is based upon a profound connection with and respect for the natural world. Our world could use a lot more of both of these.

I went to a catholic school. I hate the catholic religion and detest all others. I was taught only catholics go to "heaven" and only after being babtised. When I asked what happens to catholic babies who die before they are babtised, I was told they go to limbo ... for eternity. When I asked where limbo was I was told it was a place with fluffy clouds half way between earth and heaven - I kid you not. Many a day my eyes would wander out the classroom window and gaze at the fluffy clouds floating by, wondering how many dead babies were up there without even a rattle to play with. We were encouraged, indeed told it was our duty to convert as many other non-believers as possible into this f'd up religion. In fact, I've done the opposite, so according to these weirdos its the eternal burning fires for me I suppose.

I was born a Catholic and went to ... yes you guessed it.... a Salesian boarding school in England.

Orrible place up on the moors....a bit like Dartmoor run by priests. I remember one of the priests joking that they were teaching us to be Stormtroopers for God... I think he meant the Star Wars stormtroopers.....at least I hope he did.

Filled with doctrine one day in class I dared to question the slaughter of the jews and christians during the crusades and fall of Jerusalem (thou shalt not kill thought I). I was suspended for a week for being disruptive.

The only asian lad at school was there for a sum total of one term.....then someone grassed him up for being a "secret" Hindu....his family had faked being Caths to get him in...he was expelled.

I feel sorry for the poor kids who go to the HH institution.....

As I grew up I came to see Catholicism for what it was - archaic, bigoted and nonsensical superstition. A political and financial control tool for mad old men spreading fear and hate.

Whilst Buddhism isnt a clean religion - Buddhists have fought religious wars and some sects do spread bigotry (Sri Lanka for instance) - the one difference as I see it is they recognise that there are many paths to enlightenment and a good life. Christians, Jews and Muslims see only one - their own - and all others are wrong and heretical.

There lies the root of the problem. :cuss:

Catholic Schools have changed somewhat since those dark days.

Many a reason why parents send their kids to these school is that there is a degree of disipline installed into the kids. School uniforms are also compulsory where as most state schools in the UK anything goes and anarchy rules.

I went to a RC school and believe it was ok as for the Religious aspect you take the good bits and ignore the bad.

I disagree with uniform bit JG. OK, uniforms may not be the Blazer, Tie and Cap that I had to wear, but modern fashions have taken charge.

Most schools in areas where I visit have a uniform code. Usually sweat shirts and pullovers, but they are uniforms and all of the kids dress the same. They are easily identifiable to their school.

OK, they don't look as smart as we did, but it is an affordable option for all classes, and it is definitely a uniform.

I, like most others commenting here was brought up (dragged?) in a religious private school in Austrlaia. Couldn't wait to get out of the place as soon as year 12 was done with. The only good thing these schools have going for them (and even that is being whittled away by the politically correct police and do-gooder tree-huggers) is Discipline. A good caning never hurt any kid, in fact does them some good. teaches them that rules are rules, coz as you get older these rules become laws and they need to be obeyed. Lack of discipline in aussie schools is the cause of all these teenagers running around at night, binge-drinking, vandalising, covering things in grafitti, and such. the whole ADD / ADHD thing is a crock ! cane 'em i say, hard and often !! that'll learn em !

back on topic.. all religion is rubbish. We are nought more than a complex chemical reaction... and when the chemical reaction finishes... thats it, there is nothing else. Sooner people realise that, the sooner people will stop doing stupid stuff "so i go to heaven", or "sit beside alah for eternity" or some other crap. When you're dead, you're dead.
