I watched the final episode of The Pact last night, which included a few unexpected twists - whilst not the very best of dramas, I found it well worth watching!!

^^I've seen the first 2 episodes. Still struggling a bit with the "Why didn't they just tell the police?" issue (obviously because otherwise there'd be no story), but I'll persevere and hope to get past that.

Have any of you watched the Peaky Blinders series? I know most of you are from the UK, but did you have a problem understanding the dialogue? I'm usually pretty good with UK accents but this series actually has me straining and focusing on every word to be able to follow the story. It's exhausting!

I usually have the subtitles going, that helps. I watched the series, and liked it, but don't remember if it had subtitles.

Good question!

I don't remember not understanding anything, but I probably had to concentrate hard sometimes! It's a while since I last watched it, but you need to be aware that there are a lot more than just 'Brummy' (Birmingham/West Midlands/Black Country) accents. The Shelbys themselves, though most of them had strong Brummy accents, were of Irish/Romany origins, and Sam Neill played the Belfast detective with a strong Northern Irish accent (there are lots of different Irish accents, trust me! Ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, et al). There's also London Jewish (Tom Hardy, great actor), and probably others I don't recall.

This is an interesting article about the political and social backdrop to Peaky Blinders, including the Irish situation.

I enjoyed Peaky Blinders as it was something a bit different to come out of the BBC. Although as a Brit I could follow the various accents without too much difficulty, I can understand why those who speak English but are not from the UK might find it challenging at times. Personally, I enjoyed the first three series more than 4 & 5, but still very watchable. If they make a series six, it won’t be the same without Helen McCory starring as matriarch Polly Gray

^ I started watching Peaky Blinders early days, but stopped around season 3 for some reason - probably because I was on a "long term" site visit and wasn't able to download further episodes. Have to say, this is one I shall re-visit from the start...

As to the accents/language, masses of Black Country (and of course "Brummie") from memory, but lots of Irish and that being strong. I wonder though, how realistic that accent is in today's "tongue" in the same regions/areas?

Apologies if this series has been mentioned previously - I did have a look.....

Anywho - "Carnival Row".... Brilliant for me - "Fantasy", Thriller, Drama.

Orlando Bloom plays a starring part and has done well - at least for the first couple of episodes.

Have been watching on "Amazon Prime", but I'm sure will be available on the usual suspects... :D :thumb:

Mate, if you like Sci-Fi, it's an absolute cracker - I'm a proper Stars Wars & Star Treck fan from Day 1...... This is one of the best without doubt.
Other treats for Star Trek fans to look forward to are:
Strange New Worlds - filming now, probably out next year
Discovery season 4 - out later this year
Picard season 2 - out later this year, early 2022

Finished it, I'd give it a 7.5/10

One that I've been looking forward to for a while came out on Netflix today. Sweet Tooth. Just enjoyed the first episode and will most likely binge this today. :D
