Food on the bar

Post by richard »

Ever fancied a cheese and onion roll or a cheese salad roll or a pickled egg in a bag of plain crisps whilst enjoying a pint?

Used to be a popular goer in the UK some time back

No call for it here???? :munch: :munch:

Cheese and onion in one of those crusty rolls that you have to attack like a pitbull to tear a bit off ? Fantastic :D If they served them in O'Neills I would have had one with my pint of bulmers yesterday .Has to be really strong cheddar and a 1/4" thick slice of the whole onion .Crushed up walkers crisps add to this overlooked culinary delight . Also I am surprised, considering the heat here, that nobody offers a ploughmans lunch .I know the condiments are a little pricey but I would not mind paying a fair price for one . :munch:

Food on Bar

Couldn't agree more guys, especially the chunky strong cheddar and onion. Don't see it over here these days though - probably due to the 'elf 'n safety!
The thing was the display, in a cabinet right on the bar. Not the same as just seeing a menu board and not quite knowing what you are gonna get.
In LOS you would need a chilled display cabinet, staff who use tongs so as not to offend tourists, blah blah.
Might be an idea though for some bar owners to try advertising a ploughmans to see how they go. They might need to have the cheese portioned up ready, but they're easy to sling together and quick too.
(Sorry - TIT moment - did I say 'quick'? Oh well, quicker than microwaving a meal anyway.) :thumb:

A good fish n'chips will be most welcome. I'm happy with thick-cut chips :thumb: like mum's.
And lots of them, please! Most of the Fish n'Chips I've had in LoS have been short on chips.

For a good f/c meal try Richards place near to the railway crossing.

Chips how you want them and plenty, mushies too, curry sauce and a fist full of scraps too

You'll get what you ask for

same chap ?

Post by MartinJ »

About 2 years ago on my last day in Hua Hin, what they say about the last place you look) I found this fish and chip place, it late evening but not yet dark. I thought blast missed the chance, but the very nice chap cooked me one of the best fish and chip meals I have ever had, super chips and had nice red sauce (no brand name) He was an older chap and had a weather look, but I can not remember his name

It was a small place by the sea front on a walk way to a quay, if I remember right. I was hoping it was still going to be there. Reading this post it seems that there is a place still there but may not be the same as before.

But

The chap who ran it may have moved to another place (is this place marked on the map I have to ask) I like to check if this could be the case. Or has the one by the train station be there for longer than 2 years. I never found the train station, is this hard to get to, a long walk or need a ride?

Could be but it been said that all places change ownership quickly and you never know

Still think Place and Chips is better more than cod, less bones in a Place. My thought only

Blimey, Martin, that was a confusing post! What part of England do you come from?

Late evening and not really dark? Are you sure you were in Thailand? It's really not at all difficult to find the railway station in HH. Even if you're not looking for it!

Anyway, I agree with you about the plaice v. cod thing, and I think you're probably talking about the same bloke but now in a different location.

see your point

Post by MartinJ »

Trust me if I not look for it I miss it. I walked past a hotel I was going stay at least twice before I got some one to show me the entrance.

You see the Singapore grand prix (night but not really dark)

I may be wrong here, but I always thought of evening normally around 5 pm, evening class start, late evening after 7pm, after 9 pm would say it night time.

but see your point. and hope i can find the place ( not the fish)

Hmm, now that really would have been interesting!

It's not really dark in many towns and cities these days, unfortunately, regardless of the time. Something to do with 'electricity'.

I don't get out much in the late evening, 'they' won't let me. You obviously don't have the same problem.
