Being pregnant in Hua Hin

Post by nadina »

So...got the news that I am pregnant today!! It is s big news. Being a new comer to Hua Hin, 1st baby, have no idea what to do.

So today I went to San Paolo to have a 1st check. Doctor speaks so and so English if not very shy..

Any of you have had any experience with consulting in S. Paolo or you recommend that I go to Bangkok every month for the check instead? I am pretty lazy as you can imagine :)

Thanks for the input

Would highly recommend Petcharat Hospital in Petchburi. Great antenatal care, professional staff, and no inflated farang prices.

Avoid San Paulo unless you have very deep pockets.

Also avoid San Paolo if you want to stay healthy. Would strongly advise you use one of the larger Bangkok Hospitals. My daughter was born in Bumrungrad and the whole experience was excellent.

Good luck anyway.

:agree:

A few of my friends have given birth at Petcharat Hospital and have only had compliments to say about the place.

San Paulo is a rip off joint that doesn't actually care about the quality of work done, as long as they are being paid they seem to get away with it.

Petcharat are friendly, helpful, educated in their field, clean, not passport stealing gangsters!!! etc etc

So today I went to San Paolo to have a 1st check. Doctor speaks so and so English if not very shy..
Just think yourself very lucky that you came out of there alive

I, for one, cannot wait until the Hua Hin hospital has finished its grand plan as they are far better than San Paolo already, so who knows, maybe we might have a real quality hospital in Hua Hin soon.

Surprised you weren't diagnosed with a 'tummy upset' at S.Paulo and given a laxative!!

San Paulo

If you do ever happen to find yourself at San Paulo, ask for Dr. Boriphan. He is very good, very professional and speaks English quite well. He did an emergency type surgery there on me there a couple years ago and I survived quite nicely. As with many Thai businesses, the management and the "workers" are not necessarily all on the same wave-length.

A bit off topic but baby related - daughter in law went in to labour in London this morning, still waiting for news
Apparently ante natal treatment and hospitals a bit disconcerting over there too. Will be out in 12 hours

Just remember that if there is anything you are worried about later on there are some great hospitals in Bangkok for advice - what about HHAD experienced Mums rallying round and having a coffee morning for congrats and general support for this lass and other young Mums?

Good luck, you will be fine and Great Times for you in years to come!

Yes, he is a very nice doctor. He was the doctor who would come and see me for 5 minutes every day for the 4 weeks I had to lie down on a bed in San Paolo. English was pretty good, seemed professional, yet could not perform the actual operation himself 2 weeks prior, hence I needed to go to Petcherat.

Oh yes nearly forgot, for him to come and see me every day ( for 5 minutes ) and tell me that my hip and spine are getting better cost 1500 baht per day. That works out as 18,000 baht an hour charge

That's exactly what I mean GLC. The doctor is great but I really do not think that he is involved with the billing. After all, they have experts in the front office who are well trained in Bill-Padding, Exorbitant Fee Extortion, Suspicious Hidden Charges and the infamous 500-baht-for-a-Paracetemol graduate school.

I would bet that Dr. Boriphan did not see one tenth of that 1500 baht daily checkup fee.

My surgery was partly covered by insurance and the bill I finally had to pay for about a week there was manageable. (I don't remember exactly how much or what the breakdown was.) I have a general sense that they were not quite so greedy a couple of years ago and that things have gotten steadily worse.

San Paulo treated me OK

Post by huahinsimon »

This seems somewhat like the Pasta Factory thread. Ya love it or hate it.
I had two experiences at San Paulo. First one concerned a piece of stick I stepped on that jamed a piece of wood about 1/2 into my foot just behind right ankle bone. I dug out what I could but next day foot was beginning to swell. Just a tourist then I went San Paulo. Got a nurse in emergency room to sit down and dig around for a half hour with tweezers, etc, pulling out splinters of wood. Bandaged it up and said I was to come back every morning the next 5 days. 350 baht for the initial treatment.
Excuse me, but in the land of the dollar fat, that would a cost in the hundreds of smackers maybe even 5. I kinda dreaded the daily treatment-Remove bandage, pick out the puss with tweezers, ouch!!, antiseptic, rebandage, another 1/2 hour in the emergency room. GadZoks, a stunning 50 baht! I made every appointment. Good value :D

Two weeks ago I had some kinda back spasm/pinched nerve. Subsequently having heard all the bad words on San Paulo and thinking myself lucky on first go, I went to Hua Hin PolyClinic of the much lauded Petcharat Hospital. There I spent 2 -TWO- hours IN THE WAITING AREA writhing in pain trying my best to get attention and moved to the head of the line or into emergency room. Finally was seen by the female DR and told me the emergency room was occupied and I would have to go else where. I sure felt telling her where to go! :cuss:
Grabbed a taxi to San Paulo. In Tthe emergency room in two minutes and on the bed. The famed Dr Boripan attended to me. Got a shot of pain killer, xrays, examination, a second shot of stronger stuff as the pain was now excruciating. Told "nothing wrong" no stone--were they thinking possibly kidney?
I never had "nothing wrong" hurt so bad. But I guess it was a twisted or pinched nerve that didnt show up on xray. I was under observation for 3 hous. I was prescribed a weeks worth of 3 types of medication for pain and muscle relaxer. Cost me 3400Baht. 100$US. maybe expensive in contrast to HHPolyClinic for same treatment IF I could have been seen. But again in comparison to USA, almost free. AND I WALKED OUT ALIVE!! :thumb: In contrast I walked out of the Pasta Factory disappointed while others rave. :( I do have to say I have my monthly INR done at HH Polyclinic 300 b vs. 900 at San Paulo as their lab services are quite expensives .

I don't want to support the Polyclinic or put down Sao Paulo, but I'd say that in your case, HHsimon, the words 'clinic' and 'hospital' are the most relevant. If I was 'feeling unwell' I'd go to the polyclinic to see a doctor. If I was in serious need of immediate treatment and pain relief I'd go to Petchabun or Sao Paulo to see any bugger that could make it stop quick. And I've had experience of them all.
This is the way

Avoid San Paulo

The Polyclinic and Petcharat are far superior

I was in SP some years ago for a suspected fever. When I was discharged after 2 days my right leg swelled up. They (the Doctors) said this was due to lying in bed for 2 days. Take aspirin.

It got worse and finally a close friend got me to the Bumrungrad in BK. Diagnosis? Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Life threatening if not treated

I recovered but have twice had relapses (strokes) (due to my lifestyle!!) which have been treated well by the Poly, Petcharat and Bumrungrad

Health is better than wealth.

OK Bumrungrad is expensive by Thailand standards but they are in the top ten in the world.

The Poly is busy and most people want to see Dr Saran. The Poly is also linked to Petcharat and in both cases in my opinion the service, expertise and after care is superb there and almost on a par with the Bumrungrad at a third of the price

Cheers

ps- The Poly is a good starting place for all ailments or pregnacies

pm me if you want more info

The OP was on about pregnancy in which case she had already been advised about Petcharat.

As far as I can see San Paolo are fine with simple stuff like cleaning motorbike scrapes and visual impairments but anything trickier than a common cold forget it, they'll diagnose whatever they feel like to save face in Thai style - rather than admitting they don't know.

Anything that you cant check yourself on Google needs treatment in Petburi or Bangkok.
