The board is empty this morning because of almost everyone staying up most of the night watching football! :thumb:

I've just crawled out from under the bedcovers

Terrible performance, but not for the reasons I was expecting. The 3 lions march on.

It really was like a brand new coach just out of coaching school, trying to teach a rookie team how to play football. Possession, possession, possession - on no account lose the ball. If the opposition have a man in front of you, turn around, pass the ball back and try a different route forward. If that fails, go back and do it all over again. So damned frustrating.

Skilled ball players such as Saka and Foden not being allowed to take their lesser opponents on for fear of losing possession. Don't even think about crossing the ball, one of the nasty guys wearing a blue shirt might get to the ball first. As much as I dislike Kane, if you don't pass the ball his way, he can't do much with it. It was really amateur league football.

A couple of select England players were given their head to take on the opposition, but they were simply wrestled off the ball.

A really dire performance, and Southgate is lucky to be getting his 100th appearance as England manager.

Good article from Shearer here about Southgates England.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/ar ... 02dpyzj38o

Its a little scary to think that Palmer only came on because Trippier was injured.

And whilst Southgate is fiercely loyal to his 1st eleven, he can be brutal in his aims for England and be dismissive of others. When you hear Bellingham talk of defeating all the negativity around the team, you just know that Southgate is preaching from any Govt/companies training manual, and it's working for him, just look how blinded Declan Rice has become when he talks of the messiah. But if you're not in that group, you are of little further importance. Earlier in the season, Chilwell was slowly returning from injury, he hadn't actually resumed playing, when he was called up by Southgate. Pochettino wasn't happy, but I remember thinking, well if it keeps him involved, and bonding with the group, that's okay. He played Chilwell in the next two games. I don't watch England in friendlies of euro league nonsense, or whatever it is called. Anyway, he played badly, unsurprisingly, returned injured, never really recovered by seasons end, just had a couple of games, and wasn't selected by England. His treatment by Southgate saw Pochettino really criticise Southgate, he was fuming. It seemesd to have affected Chilwell as well, as implied by Pochettino, it left him in a bad way.

You all have me to thank for last night. I turned off at 93 minutes. Then checked back in and turned on for Kane's goal.

I knew it was coming home, I just needed to shake things up.

Some unnecessary theatrics on the pitch
Whingeing in press conferences
The Christ-like goal celebration
The 'Who else?' [...could have scored the crucial goal]
And now, apparently, a 'lewd gesture' - i.e. a crotch grab

Am I the only one to detect an unpleasant whiff of arrogance emanating from Bellingham?
I hope I'm wrong, but if not, someone needs to slap it out of him sharpish.

Given his last minute heroics, and if he walks the talk for the remainder of the tournament, he can be as arrogant as he wants if you ask me! He's a Real Madrid 'galactico', la liga player of the year and Ballon d'Or front runner. Stepped up at the death, hope he can start producing some performances we know he's capable of.

Christ, the mood today could have been so so different. Can you imagine!!

Really looking forward to this next match. Pick of round, France vs Belgium.

I think it is a miracle the guy is still playing, and not in a hospital bed. So many of the 'tackles' he's received would not have looked amiss in WWE. The plan has been to knock him out of the game by every team we've played. If they'd try to bully me like that, and I'd scored a goal like that in reply, I'd still be dancing now. It was sweet justice IMHO.

I honestly thought you were just heading to a bad poem there DM.. [EDIT] There's an idea!! :thumb: :neener: :duck:

The Lillywites (Rugby), the Three Kittens (Wendyball Football) have always been arogant - it will never change. Far too much money in both.

Although I can understand to a certain extent why Bellingham did what he did, he’s good enough to let his football do the talking - he’s only just turned 21 and has the potential to become one of the game’s colossus’s.

Aaaaand another thing, while I'm in rant mode. Players of all nations angrily waving their arms at their fans, demanding more encouragement. If you're playing well, you've nothing to worry about, so get on with it FFS!
