It is a real pity!
Hua Hin has been destroyed over the past 2-3 years. A few years back I would have loved to live in a nice, traditional wooden house in Ban Khao Tao, as even by that time the rest of the town was way over-developed.
I'll be looking for land/house in the next 2 years and I'll be giving Hua Hin a wide berth.
Death by success..

Please tell all your friends to give Hua Hin a wide berth...its a horrible place...Pattaya and Phuket is better for you..the people in hua Hin are nasty..not nice at all..take my advice...and tell all your countrymen the same...DON"T COME HERE...you'll hate it..leave Hua hin to those who have already bought a place here....we need to be left alone....the hills have eyes...shaneofski wrote:It is a real pity!

I hear what you say shanofsi, but it depends what you want. If you'd like a place where you can eat and buy European food and meet up with other like-minded souls, then Hua Hin is great.
If you want to 'go bush' then Thailand is a big enough country to accommodate your needs - but I bet you'll miss those little extras that make life more acceptable. It depends how old you are, and how familiar you are with Thai culture. Land is much cheaper the other side of the by-pass - but it's horrible here. Nobody speaks English and the locals are frightened of you.
Good luck for your search for a piece of paradise.

There are a few images of the monstrosity I took on the new Hua Hin Blog

Jaime, I meant in the Western world; I'm sure they can hold their heads high in the company of Eygptian secret policemen, Palestinian politicians, Rwandan customs officers and the suchlike.
If you see surveys of the most unpopular professions they tend to be up there with Polititions, Journalists, Estate agents, Traffic wardens and Tax inspectors, vying for top spot.
Luckily I come from one of those professions that doesn't make these listings, perhaps on the basis that our few disappointed customers tend not to be around to vote!

Buksi's photo on the Blog is definitely the site I was referring to earlier. It is a government/military training and R & R establishment. I hear many different stories unfortunately.
If it is owned by the government they could say that we are lucky to have ever been allowed on the beach at all.
If it is has been sold to private developers then my understanding is that is must have been done by some corrupt government official taking advantage of the power void.
There has not been any (official) policy changes made by the interim military government regarding land ownership and beach rights.

Guess, I think you are right. I’ve been sitting on the beach in front of this establishment on a regular basis for about four years, it could be coincidental, but the first time I ever saw any activity there was about three weeks after the coup, when the gates were open, with some people wandering around the site, and at the same time, the food stall outside was being hassled by the law.
Maybe one of you guys write a simple letter of inquiry to Post Bag at the Bangkok Post stating what you're seeing and asking what is going on, given your take on the restrictions that property has concerning development.
No need to be combative, just state the story, the location, the land ownership, the land restrictions, the beach restrictions etc.
At least you'll put the story in front of many people, most surely the Thai's who may be trying to pull a fast one under cover of the coup. It won't hurt. Pete

Yes it's ruined that beach for us that are lucky enough to live here, but if we were normal working folk back home and had a one-off dream holiday to Thailand, these are exactly the places we'd be trying to book up, ie: beach front hotels/resorts.Turtle Hill Development
Just another perspective on it.
