Sad loss!

Post by Randy Cornhole »

Well ive seen it all now, my last place of peace and quite gone forever! Many's a day I would spend lounging on Hadd sai noi beach without a care in the world....good cheap food, far enough away from town to be quite and tourist free (relatively) just nice and quite...SODDING BANG!!!! Went down there today and there is a housing development being built right on the beach. For crying out loud is nowhere sacred (answer - sadly no) I held my head in my hands and called for divine guidance to smite these greedy f**ers down with a single blow.... I'm so mad i..i..i..i..cant speak! So you have spoiled another scenic piece of paradise (yes you'll come up with some moralistic bulls**t as to why its OK) but the answer is its not! So Turtle village, or whatever your called well done.....
The wheels on the bus go round and round...

Randy, are you telling us that the construction to the left, as you enter the beach, is a housing development? I saw that something was going on there in December, but I had hoped it was going to be something a bit more palatable. What really saddened me was that I had been buying my food and beer from the couple on the corner there for several years, but I saw them being hassled by the law when I was there in October. By December they had gone, and it occurred to me that this was related to whatever was being built there.
This really is an appalling piece of news; I hope your pleas for divine guidance find some ears. Not for nothing are property developers one of the most hated professions in the world.
Amongst Thais this was one of the most famous beaches in the country, even if they don’t know where it was, it appears in numerous films and TV episodes.

Sadly Steve it is true, a big banner now states that 'Turtle Village' will be built. Worst of all i saw several long sticks in the sand arranged in such a way as to suggest some sort of private beach!!!!!!!!! Are we to loose half of the only decent beach in Hua Hin? I genuinely feel great sadness about this, this beach should be a protected piece of land not another developers piece of real estate to carve up and build a wall around. Builders next, then the dogs and endless hours of construction noise. Get down there with a camera as i fear only days are left, the site has been cleared...

My understanding was that the large property to the left was some kind of military or governmental training facility. Obvious as a piece of real estate it must be worth a fortune. Generally though the government have not given commercial pressures. I hope that this not the start of something bigger.

As for the beach itself, I know the lady who runs the second of the two restaurants. She did mention the last time I went there that they were under pressure. The back of her pitch was Palace grounds and the front was beach. Either way you look at it her rights were limited. As far as I am aware only the military, royalty and the government are allowed to build in the beach.

If this site is being redeveloped for commercial purposes then it is a very sad loss.

Is this the beach about 10 ks south of HH central. Down the main road, left after about 8 ks, pond on your left befre the beach. Little secluded spot with big bolders at each end like books marks, a few shacks serving decent food???

Great little spot. Had a memorable day there last trip. Looked like a good spot to ride to on a push bike while taking in the scenery, as long as you could avoid the main road.

Nothing stays the same ...

Not for much longer if things go the way they look to be going.

It sounds far too late now and if the locals are making money it might not get much support, but is there anywhere where protests can be lodged? I suppose any from the ex-pat community wouldn't carry much weight. If the beach is of historical significance, it should be protected as has been said.
A private beach? As far as I'm aware, the only stretches of beach that are private between HH and Prachuap are at The King's Palace, other Royal land and military bases.
Terrible news indeed. I don't go there much, but it has always been my favourite spot. Quiet and good for swimming as the drop is steep.

My understanding also. Is it possible that this development is for for military top brass or an extension to the palace grounds.

If it is a housing development, it is depressingly stupid. There must be a 100 km of beach front in the area where you could build a housing estate, if you really must. Why choose the 500m that was unique for offering a bit of pleasant seclusion, and destroying what made it special.

Echo the thoughts above that was a great little spot, used to spend many a Sunday afternoon there before it became popular.

For those who don't know Khao Tao or Sai Noi beach have a look here:

Indeed it is terrible news, I use this beach a lot and now it will be ruined.

Anyone know how much the lucky b*st*rds got the land for per Rai ?

Only kidding

That's the spot. Can't understand why anyone would want to put a housing estate there. There's nothing around for miles. The beach while pleasant, ain't great cause it goes deep quick. Ideal for a lazy Sunday under the umbrella and serious swimming but not for families.

Yes saw the new housing development mid January. I am certain that the area cleared for the development used to have a nice big house on it with a fantastic garden with trees and plants 100 years old. It was privately walled. They must have sold the large plot for a handsome figure or doing the development themselves. It was like a sandstone moonscape mid January with the lovely garden gone. I walked inside the new fencing and was dreaming of how I remembered it, so sad!

I remember that spot about a year ago. We were looking at houses and land in the area and ended up at the beach for a while.
I think that the place was operating as a small cheap resort with a few bungalows. I remember the owner came out and advised that it was for sale.
Way out of our price range.
Lets hope it will still just be a few small bungalows , not a big development.

Really sorry to hear that the scenic beach there is being completely destroyed.
there is a river there too right? can only walk so far there sometimes after rain without having to take of the sandals.
Usually go there when someone visits as it was the nicest quietest spot in hua hin. Anyway a curse on the developers greed. They'll get cancer or something like that with all the bad vibes being aimed at them.
