Train derailed near Soi 112
Re: Train derailed near Soi 112
Looking down the tracks from soi 102 the area under the flyover is clearly visible so it beggars the question what was the train driver doing at the time?

Re: Train derailed near Soi 112
Wow. I obviously didn't see the results of the main crash. I looked as I went around the u-turn on the 112 side and saw a white car (untouched) which had attempted to jump the rail tracks. I'd assumed that was the cause of the accident but after seeing the pics, I realise that was just another stupid driver.
It beggars belief why anyone would even attempt a crossing there. A couple of hundred yards down the track is a proper crossing. The railway is fenced off but as they replace the section then the locals rip it down again. Maybe bricking it up will deter.

yes the train an truck were about 75 yards to the left as you drive pass the flyover...HHTel wrote:Wow. I obviously didn't see the results of the main crash. I guess that he was legally driving the train down the designated track.Bluesky wrote:Looking down the tracks from soi 102 the area under the flyover is clearly visible so it beggars the question what was the train driver doing at the time?

So - it must have been the train drivers' fault then.......Nereus wrote:..............I guess that he was legally driving the train down the designated track.

Re: Train derailed near Soi 112
so about 24 hours after the wreck, they have built a make shift barrier out of old railroad ties. that should keep most cars/trucks/scooters out. they did this on both sides. in the 10 minutes I was there, about a dozen people came by expecting to crosss as usual, but just looked a bit puzzled as they were completely stopped.
lets see how long until the bars are smashed out/cut. they replaced the damaged ties. but then also left many that were damaged. and the old stuff is left everywhere. and all the empty water bottles from the work crew. eight in total. and lets burn something at the crash site. many people living in camps and extremely poor conditions next to the tracks.
they left a place for people to walk through, with bars wielded at the bottom to prevent scooters to pass. lets see how long until the bars are smashed out/cut. they replaced the damaged ties. but then also left many that were damaged. and the old stuff is left everywhere. and all the empty water bottles from the work crew. eight in total. and lets burn something at the crash site. many people living in camps and extremely poor conditions next to the tracks.

perfectly straight track all the way back the HH station to the crash location. The sun was off to the train drivers right in the west, so not blinded by a setting sun, broad daylight and perfect weather.
this is looking back to the North, the way the train came. totally clear.

Don't understand why hey don't put automatic gates which shut down when trains coming through rather than the train honking their horn. Probably $ as usual. Great pics James. Perhaps a new job in journalism is in the waiting?

Re:
Assuming there probably is some sort of HHTSB somewhere, you just know that everything that goes wrong is just an accident, completely unavoidable, nobody's fault and nothing needs to be done to prevent a similar accident.dalmatiandave wrote:Didn't realise so many members here are employed by the HTSB, the Hua Hin Transportation Safety Board.
I would imagine that Mr West's token investigation regarding the sight-lines and position of the sun etc. is vastly deeper than any other investigation that may arise from this incident.
Re: Train derailed near Soi 112
this is just a dirt path. not a road. you are not suppose to cross here at all. i tried to cross a few times on my scooter, but the rails are too high, only a truck with high ground clearance can make it over the rails.TicTac wrote:Don't understand why hey don't put automatic gates which shut down when trains coming through rather than the train honking their horn. There's a perfectly good crossing a stone's throw away. And here's me thinking it's the local Thais that are stupid. Seems I was wrong.
