Train derailed near Soi 112

Post by HHTel »

Just heard that a train coming from HH has derailed near the flyover after hitting a car attempting to cross the track and getting stuck.

Anyone know any more details?

Correct. Train crashed into truck. Track blocked 50 yards south of overpass. Nothing left of truck. Photos to follow

The truck driver jumped clear and lived. The truck caught fire. It is out now.

The train station south of the wreck is unloading the passengers from the north bound train. This station is opposite the Hyatt. They are being buses. Right into bumper to bumper traffic.

Not sure what you were looking at James, but as I live a spit away, I went to have a shufty on the way to Tesco. I saw the white car which seemed to come from the north side of the U-turn tried to jump over the rails and grounded after the front wheels got over the rail. It doesn't seem to have been hit but was stuck across the rails.

Motorbikes do this all the time. No sooner than they rebuild the fence then the locals take out a section. Motorbikes have to lift their bikes over the rails. Trying to take a car across there is ridiculous. Even more stupid is the legal crossing is 100 mtrs away.

That supports one of my theories about Thai car drivers. They've driven motorcycles all their lives, basically abusing every regulation in the book. They eventually take out a loan, buy a car that they can't afford and carry on driving their car thinking they can do with their car, exactly what they did with their motorcycle.

and unhappy people at the next station to the south getting on buses. of course, NO POLICE AT ALL ON SCENE at the crash site. Anyone can walk around and do anything you want. Like me :) I did see one BIB on his scooter, but he was far from were he was needed to control traffic, just sitting and doing nothing. I wonder what is on the freight trains that come through town? maybe we will find out one day.

You would think someone at SRT would advise that all their trains be fitted with pointed/tapered 'cow-catchers' similar to the ones those locos used to have in the wild west films..just thinking of protecting the train from expensive damage when brainless s***s end up underneath the front end. Did the driver jump clear...THEN run away..??

and of course, while the train is just 50 yards to the left in this photo, with EVERYONE STANDING AROUND, including some train employees, what does this guy do? he tries to cross the tracks IN THE SAME PLACE of the original crash  to avoid all the bumper to bumper traffic. then he chickens out when he sees how high the tracks are. The BIB do nothing to control access to the site or control traffic. you can't make this stuff up.
