Weeks or months maybe when referring to journalistic bullshit bit in reality I think you are talking decades of centuries.
I have spoken to an employee of Disney who says that they have heard nothing about it at all except that mention of a site in Malaysia was mentioned about two years ago and then dropped.
This was probably some ploy to raise the value of Khun Chang's shares just before offloading a few of them.

I just came here for the first time in August 2005, - And visited 3 times more, before moving here in june this year - I would be so sad, to see this small city, turn into a tourist hell like Phuket, or a mayhem like Bangkok, or, a old-bastard-pedofile hellwhole like Pattaya - Hua Hin is unique and beatiful - The commersialism of Disneyworld would be a disaster for this place. I moved AWAY from europe to get away from it all, not to watch this paradise turn into a new Orlando.
Thai economy could do so much better with the proper education and over-seas finances - Not with a tourist-trap - In the end, it will kill this wonderful, magical place as we know it - I love Thailand, please keep it as it is, don't make it worse :S

You mean to say that if Thai's are educated proper as good custodians, Thailand will be keept as cheap, low developed contry, where various farangs can retire to thier own little world, and let the world pass by.Locturian wrote:

BTW - I vote to place a Disneyland in Udonthani - they could use the employment opportunites

I just say, that if Thailand want's to boost the economy, they could take the example of India, where the education is high, and where more and more western countries are getting they're work out-sourced.
Education is why we "farang's" live the way we do. There has to be a middle way somewhere - Where Thailand can retain the paradise, but still have a stronger economy - I don't care if everything here (in our eyes) get's more expensive - Hey, if prices were the same as in Denmark, I would STILL live here... I am not an old retired man that has to live of his pension - I have many years to live and work, and don't mind putting in the efford to making my bucks, if I can have a nice life here in Thailand...

To find a middle way would be very nice - but who should teach them that?
UN,WTO or The World Bank ? I agree, that there should be a third way, but wouldn't hold my breathe till it's found - no doubt, money rules the world - like it or not - Disneyland is money.
Still go for Udonthani - but maybe India is a better idea

Sure a Disney World would change HH the way we all know it and may even force some to leave but an investment like Disney World is major dollars to the Thai economy regardless what way you look at it.
Anyways has there been anything else in the papers about it? I seems to sound like just a small rumor kicked off a few months back without much substance.
Cheers

I'm a freelance Journalist and that' the risk that we take in folliwing up the the News. but you are right in real it would take decades and centuries. I would like to thank you that you enquired directly by the source @ Disneys.
I would also Like to see Disney land ptu up as far away from Hue Hin as it can be. But dioes the area around Pattaya offer enough space for such a Project. Dane48 he's going for Udon Thani hmmm. Disney World Resort Khon Kean put it up there Unemploynemt solved good Idea!

We have to ask our selves, is it really that interesting to put a Disneyworld in Thailand? If the price should compare just a little to Orlando or Paris, the prices would be high - Too high for most Thai people. Hey, I had to save a long time to even get into Disneyworld Orlando - If I ever wanted to go that is...
I read somewhere, that Disneyworld Orlando, has about 55million visitors every year - That's about 150.000 people A DAY! Let's just say, that the new Disneyworld here in Hua Hin, would be the third the size - That's 50.000 people a day? I really don't see it happening. I can't imagine 50.000 Thai's speending their savings each day. And yes, the main income has to come from the Thai visitors. You cannot bring 50.000 tourists in every day, from neigbouring countries - That's 125 fully loaded 747's only with the purpose of visiting Disneyworld.
The entry fee at Disneyworld Orlando, is around 80$ - That's about 3000bath. Ok, it's Thailand, let's cut that in 3, as we did with the size - That's 1000bath pr. person over the age of 10. That only includes the entry and some basic show-rooms. A family of 4 has to spend 4000 bath, only on getting in, then has to spend on rides, food, hotel ect. - Pricetag has to be arround 15-20.000 bath for that weekend. Can't see 15.000 familys doing THAT every day...
Hey, I WANT to be skeptic, I don't want the darn thing here, so I just wanted to... look at the numbers and being realistic...

Very Good point you made there Locturian but This Thai factor is only secondary the main goal is to bring as many High end Foreingers to visit disney world Hua Hin. I'm least that enthusiastic about this happening in my old Univversity town. but with the estimate 50.000 Thais a day and another 60. to 80.000 Foreigners to visit this monstrosity we come in the range to what Orlando visitor numbers a day.
I'm still young and energetic but HH is kinda My Chill Mension to chill and let the worrld pass by for once without covering it!

I think the populartity of such a theme park would be massive with thai people, many underestimate the wealth of a very large number of thai famillies.
I was told a few days ago that this venture may run alongside another golf and Country club to be built by a huge player in the beer world. The land is bought by all accounts already - and its not far from town - actually a really lovely location.
