Disneyland Thailand in Hua Hin?
Hi there this News I just snapped up from todays Bangkok Post Business section. Here's the importatnt section concerning Hua Hin.
TCC Land plans projects worth B70bnHua Hin Disneyland in the talking stage
KANANA KATHARANGSIPORN
Liquor tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi (Beer Chang founder) is investing around 30 billion baht in property projects nationwide worth a combined 70 billion baht.
Also in the pipeline for the country's richest man is an ambitious plan to develop a Thailand Disneyland covering 10,000 rai in the seaside resort town of Hua Hin.
"Khun Charoen is negotiating with many investors to set up a joint venture to develop 10,000 rai in Hua Hin for the first Thailand Disneyland,"
So what you all who live in Hua Hin think about this Idea. when I read the News I was in suproed and shocked And do y'all think this Project would really take off? and take shape? I'vebeen to Disneyland Overehere in Anaheim California a severall times and having such a Theme Park in Hua Hin is really unimagineable for now at least...!

My wife was told by someone associated with the new Queen's Valley golf course that he has already bought the land. It's near that new course.
Please take with a pinch of salt as you know what Thai whispers are like, but if true could well be a goer.
Bad news for those who'd like to see Hua Hin remain a small'ish, quiet'ish resort.
Good news for those who want to see Hua Hin grow into a major resort, ala Phuket.

I think it would be a disaster for this wonderful place.
It would change out of all recognition and no longer be the place we know and love.
Would hate it to be like Phuket, Orlando etc.
Those locations have their place in the world but it would awful if Hua Hin was like them.

The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
If its true, I'm glad I didn't bother to take my granddaughter to Euro Disney when she was over here.
Seriously, its going to totally change Hua Hin as we know it. Do you think the main man will allow such a monstrosity to be built in his back yard?
It would certainly be a major boost to the local economy.

Oh, please God, NO!
Why here? Why not Phuket or Pattaya or even Samui? I hope & pray this isn't true or never makes it off the ground. Of all the Western influences we could have done without, that tops the list. If it happens it'll give coronaries to all of those who got so worked up about the construction of Market Village...

There's no viable land left near Pattaya to do something like that. You would have at least a 45 minute drive to the northwest in the direction of Chachengsao to find enough available land for that. That means a 1 1/2 hour round trip haul if staying overnight in a hotel in/near Pattaya. Much of that available land out there is near industrial estates as well, not really a spot for a theme park. Only other alternative that I can see is way out in the hinterland of Rayong. Also, HH has always been a family destination, moreso than Pattaya. There's also this simmering casino issue for this place. I think the guy did his homework by picking HH over Pattaya. It will for sure change your lives there though if it happens. Pete

My Thai fiance works for Disney here in California, and is from the Hua Hin/ Cha Am area. I mentioned this to her (tongue in cheek) she laughed, then asked "really??". She said she was going to ask at work today.
I told her don't worry about it, but got that look that says "yeah, right"
I hope the people at Disney will be nice.

au contraire, PJG. It may well be a disaster for HH as we know it, but that is already an inevitable process. The sleepy fishing village concept, as we all know, is long gone and it is only a matter of how the town develops.
If you have investments in HH, I suggest that a major theme park in the reasonably near vicinity (ie about 30 mins drive), will only accelerate the rapid ascension of real estate and business values. If you wanna sell, I'll make you an offer!!

Since I read this thread a couple of hours ago, I've not been able to think of anything else!
What's it going to involve?
1. Massive construction site for a couple of years - a huge influx during that time of construction workers. Not just the theme park, but Hua Hin will need more Hotels and Fast Food Joints. More accomodation to house all of the extra workers.
2. Massive influx of tourists. Not just families, but most tours to Thailand will include a visit as an extra - the crazy gang will undoubtedly move in in droves from Pattaya.
3. A need to vastly increase the number of bars to cater for the visitors. If the crazy gang arrive, they'll be expecting a mini Pattaya, and all of the class bars that go with it.
4. Traffic - I doubt whether the current road infrastructure could cope.
5. If a few bungalows inappropriately placed causes the current flooding problem, this development will need more than just a moat.
There's quite a list that I could continue with, and probably just as much negativity that I haven't thought of.
Can anybody think of any positives?
If the project goes ahead, I for one will be re-thinking where I want to spend the rest of my days.

I would have thought around the vicinity of Bangkok would have been more viable. For foriegn and "local" tourists.
Don't know about the States, but DL Paris isn't 200k south of Paris and there simply isn't that much distance in HK?
I can't see HH being able to support it, but when in LOS?
