[quote="Burger"]As Jim has said, we have to face the inevitable.
Hua Hin is starting to, and will grow into a major resort IMO. Bigger than Phuket in 10 - 15 years time ?? Don't bet against it.
It's driving distance from Bangkok, it's a Royal town, it has an abundance of quality golf courses, it has miles of beaches, but most of all it has land, land and more land, available for development. Something Phuket and Samui does not have.

Good Point that you had made their Burger! about 15 to 20 Years ago Pattaya and the Vicinity around Cholburi had a lot of Land left for devellopment. Now those areas have no more Land left for such a devellopnemt for the scale of Disneyland. After decades of being spared from Devellopment (Thank God) it's now time for Cha Am, Hua Hin and Pranburi to be develloped into upscale Resorts. during my exilirating fun and wild years @ Stamford Penetentury... aehh University I had seen Hua Hin slowly changing too but it has still kept it's beauty which I love. I will be comming to HH more often the next comming years cause their is interesting times ahead for this now quiet "Chill Out" Fishing Resort.

I first came to Hua Hin in 1992.
What I loved about the place was it's 'family' feeling in respect of being a resort town.
No gogo bars inyaface and a place just to chill out.
Over the years the big hotel chains have moved in plus the usual 10 bob tailors, touristy junk stalls etc etc
It's called progress.
The problem is an international one.
When a beautiful place is found by a tourist, more and more come and eventually destroy the very 'uniqueness' of that very same place.
So - if it's true - why be surprised if Disney is to come to the area?
It's natural progression.
For sure it will boost the town's income, finally put it on the world tourist map and give prosperity to all the surrounding areas.
Let's face it Aneheim California, Orlando Florida, Hong Kong have done alright out of it.
Why they EVER chose Paris I don't know.
My own personal feeling - I'm 50 / 50 - I can see both the good and the bad.
One thing's for sure, I'm not moving on.

Nothing more about this so far Mack111 but we hafta follow this develloping News for weeks, months or even years to be quiet frank with you. When something about this surfaces under or above ground be sure I will break the News to everyone.

Or Isan where the work and revenue is needed and the land is cheap and available. I have never been to any of them but my understanding is that the visitors stay in accomodation within the compound so being next to the sea is not a necessity.DawnHHDRC wrote:Oh, please God, NO!
Why not Phuket or Pattaya or even Samui?
If they have chosen Prachuap then my guess it is because of the weather. If that is the case then why not further south. Reasl estate would be cheaper also.
If this is true the business justification of choosing Hua Hin is beyond my comprehension.
Anyway why worry, we will all be dead before the first brick is laid. Sounds like a wind up to me. I would think Disney would like some say in the location of a theme park that used their name.

I don't think you realise the enormity of these parks, and the numbers of visitors they attract every day. They would need to build a hell of a lot of Disney hotels to accomodate everybody. Then there is the sheer cost of staying in a Disney hotel. Its a bit like coming to Hua Hin, and deciding whether you want to stay at the Hilton or a guest house - the difference in cost is vast.
My guess is that if they have actually purchased this land, it will be in the 'Greater Hua Hin' area, but quite a distance from the Hua Hin we currently know.
I have been to 3 of the Disney parks on several ocassion in my youth (a long time ago). On only one ocassion did I stay in a park hotel.I have never been to any of them but my understanding is that the visitors stay in accomodation within the compound so being next to the sea is not a necessity.

One of my concerns would be the increase in traffic, the roads can't handle a regular weekend influx let alone 2 million Bangkok SUV's full of kids screaming out for Mickey.

Big Boy your abolutely right! There has to be at least 2 to 3 Disney Hotesl to accomodate all the Tourits and another aspect I would like mention is the sheer number of smaller Hotels in the vicintity of a Themi Park (e.g. Disneyland in califronia.) for those who don't want to spent that much stay in Disney Hotels. It may be thinkable having an upgrade for Hau Hin Airport to welcome Touritstd from neighboring countries
One positive aspect I can see for sure is that Stamford University & other International Universties in the Area will have an influx of Students in the Hotel & Tourism Administration Major in for the forseeable Future! Your's The Understudy!

If I recall correctly, the HK Disneyland took about 3 years, start to finish. Size restricted due to geography of Lantau Island there. If the HH Disneyland is going to try to be similar in size and scope to LA and Orlando, I would say about 5 years start to finish. Let's say they actually get going in 2008, that's 6+ years away. A long time before anyone has to worry about throngs of tourists. Undoubtedly though, the local Thai construction work force will swell to big numbers. I'm also thinking about whether your home values will appreciate because of this? I'm not sure? Pete

Here's an article from 5 months ago that Malaysia is planning hard for a Disneyland also. Doubt two can be supported so close together. Maybe it will become a bidding war? Pete
