Smoothies

Post by PeteC »

Do you folks know what these are? Not a milk shake with dairy products, but varied mixtures of fruit and juices, such as guava, papaya, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, banana, strawberry, apple, star fruit, durian etc. You can come up with dozens of variations, even adding a bit of coffee, chocolate etc.

Prepared in a blender with ice, but not to a total liquid state. You can sip and spoon or, wait awhile and drink pleasurably with a straw.

Extremely popular in places like Hawaii, Mexican resorts, California etc.

Bar owners note, I've never tried it but I think would also be good with a shot of zambuca, rum, sloe gin, flavored brandy, what have you.... but needs to be sweet.

Maybe a good business opportunity here? I think the tourists would go for them big time. I've never seen them this side of the trench. Pete

Those of us who are not still desperately engaged in a myopic and lofty search for 'The Real Thailand' and who allow ourselves to enter the Hua Hin Market Village or Swensens in the town centre have certainly partaken of these refreshing concoctions in Hua Hin Pete.

However, I think I will suggest a raw blood, snout and tape worm smoothie to Swensens and Bonitos in order to cater for those who are seeking a more authentic experience.

I've had them in numerous places all over Hua Hin - only ever cost between 20 and 30 Baht. However, the first one I ever had was about 20 years ago in Pattaya - can't remember where, but my wife learnt how to make them when working over there.

Now I've started writing this, I see your suggestion is not as bad as I first thought. On first reading, I thought you had suggested a Blood Nut smoothie - unthinkable!

Theres a new appliance available in the western world called a "blender" which apparently can achieve the desired result.
The "smoothie" is also now available in whats commonly known as a supermarket as well as other outlets.

How natural are they? A real smoothie is made from natural ingredients only - no e numbers etc. You can't beat the real thing - much healthier as well. Simply a different slant on eating fresh fruit.

Your right! Cant fault getting the good old 5 a day in 1 tasty beverage.
I think they are the real deal to be honest.
Seen them in the local tesco (uk) Forget the name, white label with black writing. Short shelf life and bloody expensive, about 1.50.
Think its some organic farm shop gone country wide trial.
Definitely a real smoothy though not a nuclear powered Sunny Delight lookalike.
Fresh Smoothie places are everywhere in England now though.
Brilliant if you want to pay 2 quid for a carrot juice in the Trafford Centre.

Next time your in Bangkok ask a local to take you for a snake blood cocktail. Freshly prepared for you whilst the snake is still alive. Then of course you can eat the snake as well.

Makes you horny providing you don't have too many!!!!
