Our consciousness determines the state of the physical world. Instead of testing for greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, mankind should have a 'Consciousness Meter'.

Every 1 degree Celsius that the world gets warmer brings at least 7% more precipitation due to increased evaporation but the the increase can be larger, as much as 15% in tropical regions. It's based on a thermodynamic equation called the Clausius-Clapeyron relation and it's been understood since about the 1830's.

One really has to have serious doubts about some of these "experts", if this reporting is correct:

Froc explains localised floods

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingnews ... sed-floods

In a live telecast on NBT, Froc expert Dr Anond Sanitwong explained about reported floods in certain communities along Chao Phraya river today as due to unusually high tide from the sea caused by changing wind direction.

Bang Krabue's flood wall was breached as the BMA's 2.5 metre concrete wall was not high enough to prevent high water tide today. The area is now strengthened with sand dykes to raise the height.

Don Mueang flood is localised due to low-lying areas and the flood water seepage from Khlong Prapa.

There is no need to panic as there is no more rain from the North. The present flood is caused by the floodwater in the fields which are bearing down from Ayutthaya and Pathum Thani.

GIS satellite pictures show that this so-called floodwater in the fields in Bang Pa-in and Pathum Thani is shrinking, meaning the government's effort to divert the waterflow to the east of Bangkok to be drained off via various canals is working.

If there is going to be flood in Bangkok from this floodwater in the fields it will be gradual as there is no more fresh floods from rains.

.........................................................................

The monsoon has swung around from South West to North East, any satellite picture will show that. The prevailing wind is now from the North / North East, so how is it causing high tides? I guess the moon does not have any effect in Thailand?

STEVEG... Whilst I agree with your post being correct as to the physics of things that we know, you are being completely closed minded to the fact that maybe.... just maybe.... there are forces at play which the human brain is yet to comprehend.

It would be a very boring world for myself if I thought that centuries old physics determined our world and its path. In a couple of centuries those same rules you live by may have been squashed anyways. Scientist are already arguing some of Einsteins theories with new and up to date data.

Personally, I like to let the mind wander and be open to new theories about our being. Without new ideas we would still be stuck in the Stone Age.

The time that my brain is going over the same routine day in day out is the time I consider life's not worth living.

Hello, friends in Hua hin.
I am planning a trip to Thailand next week With my girlfriend. We are arriving bkk 28. Oct.
Our plan was a trip to krabi but we have heard that it is bad weather down there at this time of year.
Our backup is going to beautiful Hua hin.
But we have heard that supplys are running low in the shops ( water, food etc) and that many fram Bangkok has left Bangkok and went to Hua hin.
How is the situasjon in Hua hin? Is it ok to go there for a nice and relaxing holiday?

Best regards

Pal

My wife tells me that a number of the dykes were deliberately breeched that were erected to SAVE Bangkokians and bugger everyone else outside the fortress walls.
Nice idea re : more canals. I gather Bangas had quite a few more some 20 years ago with many filled in to accommodate new building! Does not really either help if sea level and river level at the same or God forbid higher than river level.
What they need are some more dykes !
Disturbing to see the abandoned animals by the fast fleeing Thais including caged animals.

Pal,
at the moment everything in Hua Hin is fine, it is busy, but always is on a holiday weekend, (today is a public holiday) as for shortages, or water etc, imo, they are being a bit over hyped and certainly exaggerated, some big chains like Tesco are evidently suffering supply chain problems, but in absolute terms, taking account of local shops etc, I would be surprised if you really noticed.

Not sure whether it's been mentioned but a big problem is likely with disease when the floodwaters abate and the rising temperatures incubate bacteria. The mixing of sewage systems with floodwaters + dead animals + rotting waste, creates huge risks. Hope the Thai Health system can cope.

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

It seems to me that it might be a good idea to think about relocating some of these communities to the north of Bangkok. In some areas they've had two metres of water for about six weeks now and it's not going away soon so the buildings are going to be pretty much destroyed anyway. Seeing as this is going to be an increasing problem in the future, I don't see the sense in rebuilding in the same place.

A photo from Ayutthya:

If it weren't for the utility poles in the photo, this Wat would look like it was an island in the middle of the ocean!
