Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
Well, i'm going to buy 3 cats tomorrow, any advice for my cats ? I want them to kill all the snakes in my garden. We have a snake per day but that one was very close to the door.
Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
Color and markings look similar to this cobra; if this is it you are lucky to still have vision in one or both eyes as it is a spitter...

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

It appears to be either a keelback, or, most likely - a mock viper. They are rear fanged snakes with weak venom that doesn't affect humans much unless they bite for an extended period of time or repeatedly. Neither of which most human would wait around for.
This snake is harmless for you, but don't pick them up or play with them if you see another.
Cheers!

The wife says gnu hoaw. It makes a hissing sound when approached and is a cobra.

My daughter, JW and now Mrs JD all say no. Incidentally JW, my daughter came to her conclusion based on the jaw line as well.hhfarang wrote:Aha! The first two photos that I posted as possibilities! Do I win a prize? It appears to be either a keelback, or, most likely - a mock viper.![]()

I remain firm on my rat snake ID. As mentioned, open the mouth and look for fangs, but don't prick yourself. Use a stick or knife blade. Pete

The snake if venomous will kill the cats. I lost two in one night years ago from a viper with a nest under the house. Best to get a soi dog or two like HHF. If they don't kill it, they'll alert you that somethings out there. PeteJohan wrote:Well, i'm going to buy 3 cats tomorrow, any advice for my cats ? I want them to kill all the snakes in my garden. Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
Interesting.
I went to the HH Safari Park on my recent trip (more of which in another post at some point) and we were treated to a display with a 'cobra headed rat snake.' I couldn't attach the photo as it is too big but the snake looks superficially like a cobra. It is not venemous but very fast and actually bit the handler on the leg! I'm not saying that is what this snake is but just offering it as a posibility as I doubt anyone here is a real snake expert. Johan's advice from the snake people is therefore probably the most reliable.
One more thing - if it is a rat snake you still need to be careful as they are apparently the main source of food for king cobras, which will be found wherever rat snakes are found!

Get yourself a good soi Dog or two. I can always tell when we have a snake in the garden. Goes berzerk!prcscct wrote:The snake if venomous will kill the cats. Most of the time it does attack and to date no injuries. No sense of fear. We use Thia bangeows??
Medium sized huskey looking that like to bark alot
but friendly and protective with family members and children.
If dogs are not pratical can you pit something around the perimeter wall. Forget the name? May be on the other snake thread. Someone will know the name?

Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
New answer from the expert :
Oligodon fasciolatus, a Kukri snake.
I figured it out about 10 minutes ago. My herpetologist friend sent me email 2 minutes ago - and called it the same.
Rear fanged. Venomous. Nothing found when searched for danger to humans. The brown kukri snakes in Thailand are harmless. This is probably the same since I've heard nothing about people having complications from bites.
Cheers,
Vern

Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
Think you are spot on there Johan, but it's not a poisonous snake.
Hat off to your herpetologist friend.
Fooled myself though as I thought it was a Cobra, but why people suggested it could be a triangle-headed Viper is beyond me.

Re: Attacked by a snake, do you know what snake is it ?
I think we need a complete autopsy and some DNA tests. Please deliver said serpentine cadaver to JW's for refrigeration and process scheduling.

I think we need to call in the C.S.I. team (Correct Snake Identification)!
