The only drawback (if you're not on an unlimited data package) is that the iPhone is designed to be permanently online so will keep trying to connect to your data service. You have to do a lot of tweaking to stop it doing this.
I only use tethering now, cancelled the phone line and cancelled TOT's 1,000 Baht/month internet cr@p. Think I'll be dumping the laptop soon too after having a go on mates' iPad, he's not had to use his since, and can't see what I do that will need a PC!?buksida wrote:I use AIS One-2-Call pay as you go with EDGE/GPRS on the iPhone which works fine, its even pretty good when tethered with the laptop, you can get online anywhere that has a reasonably strong mobile phone signal.

Hi Vincent, if you had an unlocked iPhone there's an app (Boss prefs) that let's you toggle 3G or EDGE on/off, see pic below.VincentD wrote:As for the iphone, have tried it in Singapore, (nice, but...) as Bucksida has said, it wants to be connected all the time. Nice if you have a package (and real 3G), but it'll be a while before that happens here so I'll pass.
Just using up the last of the cream now, Dr. says I should be ready to reintegrate after that. The mental scars will take time thoughBaaBaa wrote:Nice to see you outside the Current affairs section SJ, I thought we'd lost you!
They have these in MV, it's just like a phone case and charges the phone while attached, rather than just sitting there waiting to be used up. Although to me this isn't something I'd be happy with having to use all the time, different if yur routine dictates it, like you're out all day on the road with your job and what have yer.VincentD wrote:Have seen 'battery extenders' basically a plastic case with a couple of AAA's that you can plug into the charging aperture in case of emergencies. Not sure if they have it for the iPhone though.
I had the same problem, battery dead. Changed the battery and everything is fine for a year now. You can change it in market village for not too expensive.buksida wrote:Any idea what I can do about the abysmal battery life on the iPhone? Are there any apps I can download to keep it charged or manage it? I've turned off all running processes, alerts, updates etc etc.
I'll fully charge it to 100% and leave it for a few hours only to find its dropped to 60%, it hasn't even received a phone call!![]()
This can't be normal, its less than 6 months old yet I have to leave it on charge every day. Naturally being Apple they wont let you change the battery or use a spare ... what use is a "mobile phone" that needs to be plugged in half the time.
