The only drawback (if you're not on an unlimited data package) is that the iPhone is designed to be permanently online so will keep trying to connect to your data service. You have to do a lot of tweaking to stop it doing this.

I only use tethering now, cancelled the phone line and cancelled TOT's 1,000 Baht/month internet cr@p. Think I'll be dumping the laptop soon too after having a go on mates' iPad, he's not had to use his since, and can't see what I do that will need a PC!?

Wow. Nice find, Pete.

I'm actually considering getting a bluetooth-tethered keypad for my mobile, but am looking at the credit card sized ones that go for about a third of the price.

Have avoided the 'full' blueberry style keypads as I like the size of my N-series as is. Didn't stop my son from getting one though.

As for the iphone, have tried it in Singapore, (nice, but...) as Bucksida has said, it wants to be connected all the time. Nice if you have a package (and real 3G), but it'll be a while before that happens here so I'll pass.
Quite content to get emails and an occasional peek at HHAD on the phone, which is why the mini bluetooth keypad appeals.

Hi Vincent, if you had an unlocked iPhone there's an app (Boss prefs) that let's you toggle 3G or EDGE on/off, see pic below.

If you had a locked phone on a TrueMove package then unlimited EDGE/3G is effectively free, or little. I'm basing this on the 599B/month I pay, which has 300 minutes call time, 300 SMS & 120 MMS. Because I use internet at home tethered off the phone, I cancelled TOT phone line & internet package saving a few bob, but as me and Buksi have commented before, and you rightly pointed out, if you're not in an area with decent 3G reception then it'd be painful. With decent reception it makes the telecomms broadband connections seem painful.

Any idea what I can do about the abysmal battery life on the iPhone? Are there any apps I can download to keep it charged or manage it? I've turned off all running processes, alerts, updates etc etc.

I'll fully charge it to 100% and leave it for a few hours only to find its dropped to 60%, it hasn't even received a phone call!

This can't be normal, its less than 6 months old yet I have to leave it on charge every day. Naturally being Apple they wont let you change the battery or use a spare ... what use is a "mobile phone" that needs to be plugged in half the time. :cuss:

Think you've got a dud battery my man, or something else seriously dysfunctional about your person. If you had watched 2 hours of continuous video you 'should' have only used up 20% of the battery life, 40% if 2 hours of 3G internet. You do hear of dud batteries, you can get them replaced in shops though can't you? Maybe not here but people have them posted to them and change them via the help of YouTube.

Screen brightness is a big one, most people only have that on about 25% normally, there's nothing that can actually use battery life at that rate apart from game play!? If you download this battery free app, it might give you indication of what's up, this is a screenshot of mine. Never charge mine at all .... since tethering came in

Just using up the last of the cream now, Dr. says I should be ready to reintegrate after that. The mental scars will take time though :alien:

You have a dud battery for sure. Mine will last 2 days on heavy game and phone use.

Buksi
the battery life is adversely affected if you use the UTMS (aka 3G) system as compared to just GSM.Though I have UTMS capability on my phone I'm not in a trial area so have the phone set to GSM only. I think even if it's in dual mode, it keeps searching for a signal more often for 3G.
I've seen battery life affected just with Bluetooth alone so it's only on when necessary (like for the handsfree attachment). I also keep a plug-in charger in the car just in case as GPS is another heavy power user.

Have seen 'battery extenders' basically a plastic case with a couple of AAA's that you can plug into the charging aperture in case of emergencies. Not sure if they have it for the iPhone though.

This drops battery life when the phone is just sitting there doing nothing, I don't use 3G or Bluetooth.

Must be toasted unit then! Time to give it to the kids and go Android!

They have these in MV, it's just like a phone case and charges the phone while attached, rather than just sitting there waiting to be used up. Although to me this isn't something I'd be happy with having to use all the time, different if yur routine dictates it, like you're out all day on the road with your job and what have yer.

How much is one of those? Could be an option.

I had the same problem, battery dead. Changed the battery and everything is fine for a year now. You can change it in market village for not too expensive.
