Anyone been down the Hua Hin / Takiep beach recently. Has the annual jellyfish mob come in for a visit yet? Can't remember which month was bad for them August, September, October? I don't swim in the ocean myself (scares the bejeezers out of me!) but the fearless little ones do and would rather not put them in a jellyfish infested ocean, unless they are playing up
If it's within arms reach, there's nothing to worry about!!

Can anyone tell me when the Jely fish season is in Hua Hin please.

I remember about 10 years ago when I never saw a Jelly Fish here at all. Has anything changed to encourage their presence. Someone mentioned that their were now some shrimp farms in the vicinity which attracts Jelly Fish?

Is there anyway to discourage the blighters from stinging us ?

Cheers, Alan

Basically no, when you enter the water you are in their territory.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

I've found that sitting under a parasol in a beach bar works for me!

Big Aussie life savers wear panty hose or stockings over their hairy legs so they can wade into reef surf up to hip height and avoid Irrakangi/jellyfish stings in season.
(Jelly fish avoid Ladyboys. Maybe they have the bigger stinger.)

It's now. The missus and I went for a walk from Takiab to Hua Hin on the beach yesterday. The tide was out and there were hundreds of dead or dying jellyfish stranded on the beach.

Hi folks, do you think there would be jellyfish in the waters of Hua Hin beach this Dec/Jan? I would hate to be landing in the sea while para sailing/kite surfing into these critters!

The jellyfish season must be nearly over as I had a 30 minute walk on the beach south of Takiab yesterday and only saw one. The last time I walked down there a couple of months ago, you could hardly walk without stepping on one.

The only thing is that the jellies are always out there. They might not get washed up on the beach but, especially if you're going a distance offshore through kitesurfing, you may encounter them.
I've known kiteboarders get stung at this time of year.

I have been swimming regularly, nearly every day, in the sea for long distances, quite far from the shore. Got stung once after two month of being here in June and July and got myself a wet suit. The kite boarding shop sell wet suits (mine was 5,500B) and also have anti jelly fish pants 100 or so B. Got stung on the hand the other day and so have bought some webbed swimming gloves from the speedo shop, unfortunately they are out of stock now. I have flippers on my feet.

The Kite Boarding shop keeps Ammonia to put on stings. I have some in my car and it seems to neutralize the sting after a little while, it is available in most chemists, I have got several small bottles and keep them in my car along with dressing. You may want to pour some pure ammonia on straight away and then dilute the ammonia to one part in four and soak the wound in ammonia or apply a diluted ammonia soaked dressing. I applied pure ammonia to my latest sting and I think it resulted in blistering of the skin, I applied the ammonia pure in a dressing for several hours but if you dilute it you should be OK.

The flippers and wet suit and now the webbed gloves are a lot of fun. I am zipping through the water now! But I guess that does increase the chances of me encountering another jelly fish. :-(
