He's telling the truth Richard, I met him when I was in the SAS! Image

It surprises me that he needed a translator considering he's an expert on all things Thai.

Just found this on the Net.

Not sure it will change things?

PM announces next election will be held on Nov 14

BANGKOK: --Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced Monday night on TV that he will hold the next election on November 14 if if his roadmap to solve the political problems is not interrupted.

He said the road map has five elements as following:

1) All parties concerned must join forces to uphold the monarchy.

2) The government will carry out national reform to do away with injustice in the economic and olitical structures.

As part of the process, the government will provide good social welfare, education, health etc, as well as other things to people suffering from other plights.

3) The government will ensure that the media will function as a constructive tool.

4) The government will set up an independent committee to investigate the deaths and injuries in clashes between troops, police and protesters on April 10, at Silom and on Vibhavadi Road.

5) The government will take actions to study the public feelings of injustice regarding to political system, especially after what happened over last few years, and try to solve the problems.

It'll be interesting to see which parties get banned before we actually get to the election.

Stock up and good excuse to have a farewell house party! :D

Sometime within the next 12 hours we'll have the Red Shirt answer. Various articles are pointing towards their acceptance. Pete

OK, maybe I'm being a little selfish  I suppose a peaceful solution might just be more important than a farewell bash :D

Seriously, I'd go teatotal for the entire holiday if I believed it would help to bring this mess to a successful conclusion.

Couldn't agree more BB - but with a 'road map' like that I wonder which November 14th Abhisit is aiming for?
It's all well and good him applying Western politico-psycho babble speak to solve a Thai problem. The real issue is will it work there?

You mean after Thaksin has paid for them as he did last time? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: (and it was nowhere near that figure, he only got the 'majority' by physically purchasing other parties and snaking politicians crawling across to the other side for a quick buck.)

Elections are not going to mean squat until corruption and bribery are eradicated ... which isn't going to happen for a very long time.

I didn't say that, the Democrats don't deserve power and neither does the Pua Thaksin party. Now go back and read what I wrote, then read it again ....

My concern would be what will happen with party bans in the lead up to the election.
I suspect that the opposition parties will face a ban at a point too late to set up an alternative or some other trickery to upset the fact that the Democrats will struggle to win the vote in a straight election.

Or the other side doesnt deserve to run the country

couldnt agree with you more but the first quote is yours and is an obvious case of double standards condemning all is the correct stance but just continually harping on about one side whilst ignoring the other is patently biased

Which is exactly what you are doing in your support for Thaksin and the reds by conveniently ignoring history and the things that started this big bloody mess. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Steve, I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of bannings, the best thing would be for the whole damn lot of them to be banned and a fresh new start without the political dinosaurs and the power mongers that are painfully obviously only in it for themselves.
