I'm posting this BBC article since it was only published on Wednesday and it confirms that concerns about Psychiatry are not limited solely to the U.S.

Psychiatry - A Dark Art
We hear about how goverments, in bed with the pharma companies, controls it's media to promote medicines in pursuit of big money and to try and control the masses. It's re-assuring that this is not the case in the UK
We also hear about how we should not trust some psychiatrists as they are motivated by money. Not sure then what to make of this psychiatrist's claims, summed up by .... "In my view it remains more plausible that ...".
There is one indisputable fact from the article though, that her book on the subject entitled 'The Myth of the Chemical Cure' is being released in September

Yes. It's not yet the case in the UK, which has been acknowledged previously. Changes may be afoot though...Super Joe wrote:We hear about how goverments, in bed with the pharmaceutical industry controls it's media to promote medicines to pursue big money and try and control of the people. We are all motivated by money to some extent. Whether it negates her points is up to the reader. We live in a capitalist society and 'experts' write books. Newspapers charge for information too. We can still read them and decide whether the information presented is credible or not. I tend to look for multiple sources before presenting a view. This limits any one factor as being the sole motivator.
I just watched a fascinating (to me) presentation by a Dr Russell Blaylock called 'Nutrition & Behaviour' which I think less 'extreme' than the site linked to earlier. You can search and download the torrent, or watch it on
I believe anyone suffering from anxiety, depression, anger, food or alcohol cravings, or who is a parent, should watch this.
The Aussies are 5 wickets down for 111. Cracking stuff Grommit.

Any recommendations for local therapists?
I have read a number of your opinions on the issue of mental health, and I respect them all.
However, I have been through a great deal of trauma in the past several years, inluding a bad accident, death of a son, death of a close friend to terrorism, and others.
Can anyone recommend a competent English speaking therapist? Sometimes, it's just a matter of talking out loud and having someone to listen.
Thanks!
