Thought I'd posted it somewhere but I dont know where!!!!!

Anyway personally he diagnosed through the use of his excellent technical equipment that I had conjunctivitis and may have cataracts in both eyes although only minor. Medication prescribed and a booked appointment scheduled for Friday evening (effectively a week)

Asked him about cataract treatment and laser treatment

He said he did it on the premises in his back room surgery and that in both cases the actual operation takes 30 minutes for both eyes

He assured me I didn't need laser surgery for both eyes yet providing I was ok with wearing specs.

I asked about price. With a rueful smile he said it was not cheap. For full vision, short and long without the need for specs was 35000 Baht per eye

I asked about recovery period. He said for the first 24 hours it's blinkers with a small aperture and avoidance of bright lights. After that at least a week in heavily tinted dark glasses once again avoiding bright lights

OK if your retired I suppose. Would do me good to stay off the streets too Not so good if you have work commitments

Buksi, The only way I think is an appointment to check eyes and a discussion about the way forward and Cost. My hearing, sight, dental faculties and the rest of my body are in decline. (old age and Thai living I guess), so I may have missed a few points

He also told me the glasses I had were sold to me by a cowboy and confirmed he could change the lenses and use the existing frames

Hope this is helpful. Have met a few people who swear by him but have not met anyone who has gone the laser route

Technology has moved on. Back in the Uk my old man has his cataracts done but only one at a time and no use of the treated eye for a fortnight

pps I went early morning (8am) and was first in the queue. After the first visit it's appointment bookings

ppps He will only do surgery if you are accompanied. Good thinking. The thought of jumping on a motorbike with blinkers seems suicidal. Mind you seems thats how Thais drive anyway. Totally blinkered or pissed

Though as you say it would make me blend in with the local driving style on the roads here!

Been back and things more complicated than originally thought.

Went tonight with a very good friend and expected an op to remove Cataracts . On examination he said he needed a doctors health cert before performing an op. Quite right too

Gave me an option Glasses to compensate or an op

Went for the op on the basis that he said no matter how long you go correcting your lenses eventually the op would be necessary.

Downside is one eye at a time with the second done within the following 2 to 4 weeks. AND the cost is 35000 per eye!!!!!!

It's not laser treatment for the full sight restoration to as good as new

I'll reiterate what I posted before. You need a consultation and examination up front before being given the options

The doctor, staff and facilities are excellent and they are in no way going to take short cuts or money making steps

Bottom line is if you need anything approaching serious surgery or technology further advanced than the beacons of Gondor get out of the fishing village and do it in Bangkok.

Hi Richard & Co.

I'm currently in HH and have been to see Dr Pairat.

I was informed:

Prior to confirming my eyes were suitable to be operated on I would need to undergo a pre-op check - a 2 hour appointment. Pop in some drops and examine the retina plus an 'ultra sound' check if I elected to have a "full op" (see below). Cost: Examine retina both eyes 1,000 baht. Including ultra sound check was 2,000 baht for both eyes.

Assuming my eyes suitable to operate on: Install a SINGLE LENS (but informed I would STILL need reading galsses) at 35,000 per eye (one eye at a time - 14 days approx between ops)

Instal Multi Focal lens (85/95% chance no reading glasses would be needed following op) at 70,000 per eye. (one eye at a time)

I'm informed this is about half the price of the same op in Europe/UK?

I had read your posts 2 months ago and had to wait until you finished the operation.It's just to prevent myself from pessimistic assumption that I want that operation. Now,it's time to correct your confused information , negative bias and some misunderstanding:-

Actually, I gave you 2 options for cataract treatment
1.Wearing glasses is not so bad because your vision is 20/40 with glasses
2.To do the operation to remove the cloudy lens and I never ever do both eyes at the same time!!!

About the price , for 1 eye , the operation include the intra-ocular lens
35,000 THB for monofocal with blueray filter lens
70,000 THB for multifocal with blueray filter lens (is not 35,000 THB that you try to belive)

It's not laser treatment for the full sight restoration to as good as new

Because you have DVT and on Warfarin ,is safe to ask your doc if you fit for the operation or not.Or you want the internal eye bleeding and go blind.
LASER is used for several eye diseases but not for the lense removal.(this fact , you can ask your doc.)

These were not my words, It's not my manner to blame any glasses the patients brought to me. In worst case , I just say that my prescription is differnt from the old one.The other fact is I don't change the lenses for the frame from outside.
