It's pretty standard for Thais to pack their own towels when they are guests at someone else's house. For the seashore, usually one for the beach, one for the bath. The host family can let them know that there are enough guest towels available so that they wouldn't have to bring their own. However, ...

I think this topic is really funny. In the past, the Thai cultures allowed brearing tops for men and women to accomodate the hot climate. The influence of foreign culture turned that pratice around so now the Thai wear business suits in all temperatures and farangs now want to go topless in bars. Hi...

Randy - if you are interested in doing volunteer work, I understand that the Rotary Club members have several projects in Hua Hin. I saw news blurb about their party on Hua Hin Today site not too long ago with a contact person, Khun Xan......

Hails - sorry, but I don't have the info that you need. My Brit lady friend who lives in HH goes to Bkk for her medical and dental needs - I imagine for her shopping also. On the bright side, Bkk is really not that far away.....

Hi Hails - the air in HH is not as pollutted as in Bkk, so you may be able to go with just a light moisterizer with sunscreens most of the time. Light foundation without oil would also be okay. Buy what you need to last for a few months or the year - keep extra in the fridge. I'm not sure what you w...

Hi Hails - there seems to be a pattern in this women's forum that days would go by without a posting. You mentioned bringing your daughter with you - she must be excited about it. The first time I took my daughter to Thailand, she was 5 years old - we stayed only about 3 weeks, but she just loved HH...

RE: safety - I have to admit that I've never been to Hua Hin by myself - always with someone - family, friends, etc. Judging from what Robinb told me about her life in Hua Hin, it's pretty safe - she scootered around on her own - said that she would leave the helmet on the scooter and never had a pr...

I'm from England, been in Hua Hin for 4 years & I'm running the Dog Rescue Center now. Exciting huh? What about you, Dara? I have been a frequent visitor of Hua Hin/Cha-am - hoping to be spending my retired years in the area. The last time I was in Hua Hin, I hooked up with Robinb who used to p...

Randy - Saw your other posting on Cha-am where you mentioned cycling - yes, you definitely could be run off the road by big trucks. As it takes very little brain to drive a car, too many ignorant people do it. It happens where else as well. When we drove across the US this time, we found that those ...

Price of Gasolene and Hybrid cars

With the price of gasolene going sky high lately, are hybrid cars such as Hondy Incites (sic?) or Toyota Prius gaining popularity in Thailand?

I agree with most folks here about what Hua Hin needs. Re K'Buksida's idea - I do love those on-the-beach restaurants in Samui, but I wonder how they would do in Hua Hn. I noticed that the local business folks in Samui actually cleaned up every night to make sure that the beach is ready and clean fo...

The downside of tourism is that it does bring some unsavory elements into a place - drugs, prostitution, and rogues. The Thai society has always been a contradictory one - peaceful, friendly, but then again, the violent side is always present. Nowaday, with too many young people on drugs and other s...
