Thai Pubs and Discos

Post by Cowtown Comedy »

Whats your opinion on farang hanging out in these very thai establishments like Luk Nam, Somorian, Hin Nam, Stepz...ect ect ect. I have always had a blast going there with the gf, and seems like I have more baht left in my pocket after a good binge of sangsom and soda. I'm sure the owners of these places love seeing us there, but how do you think the locals feel? We stand out like watermellons in on a tomatoe vine I'm sure. I tend to get mixed opinions when i pop this questions in public. Many farang have never even heard of these bars, let alone frequent them. I asked a thai guy this same question. He said its like anywhere, if you want trouble, you can find it. As a side note, he said most of the ladies that go there have zero interest in farang men. ..comments ???

If you can handle the nosebleed noise levels and are in a small group you are ,normally, made very welcome .

The guy in the bathroom who creeps up behind you really is only going to give you a neck massage and a cold towel ( whilst you are about your intended business and with no warning )

Turn up in a larger group with Thai girls from elsewhere in tow giving it the ' size 12 ' and you may be made to feel unwelcome .

  why does that thai bloke at luk nam insist on rubbing my shoulders when I'm trying to get my business done?? haha My system shuts down completely until he's finished...then its onto the hot towel man....staff of 4-5 working in a toilet is definately a culture shock when you get to LOS. I do have fun at these pubs..

I go the the Luk Nam quite a lot as Mrs S knows the house band members and I like the music. Ive been to similar places in BKK, Chang Mai and Roi Et (theres a great one down the road from the Garden Hotel).

Mrs S also knows the owner of Luk Nam and hes always happy to see farangs in his place.

I love em, and have always found that the "locals" in there are partying hearty and a smile both ways is usually followed by a Chook Dee and an offered glass of Sang Som, then getting dragged up to dance.

No matter how plastered Ive been I have never got any strife in any Thai roadhouse here or elsewhere.

The Luk Nam also hosts good gigs by Thai bands like Carabao and Bawee. Back home to see a band of the same status would mean a trip to Wembley, Hammersmith etc....and no free bottle of whisky.

The towel blokes in the Luk Nam usually leave me be...probably as they'd need a box to stand on so they could reach my shoulders.

The lasses in these places are usually there with boyfriends and/or friends and family so yes....they are 95% unavailable. Leave em be.

Know the boss and the security guys at Luknam and never had any bother. The boss has also picked us up on his chopper

Often told off for fraternising with Thais by the wife but they offer me drinks and generally are very friendly

Toilet boys-- Just shake your head and give em 10 Bhat

Great place but occasionally gets a bit wild when police and army parties conflict

Been there whilst the bullets are flying. ( I'm forced under the table of course)

baa baa,
Pala U road, on the right hand side, just before you start climbing the mountain (which i refer to as a hill). Luknam is kicking, Somorian behind the san paulo hospital is good too, both similar carabao style country pubs. Anyone want to organize a night out at Luknam?? I can almost taste the sangsom already.... PS, this isn't a plug, I have no clue who the owners are, but I love the place.

Eeezzzeee man

Cast your minds back and go club 18-30 on the mo-fo dudes !

Try jumping on the stage and limbo dancing between one of the coyote dancers legs with a bottle of corona in each hand whilst your drunken mates attempt to start an overly boistrous mexican wave on the dance floor .

Flicking your tongue in and out in a lascivious and suggestive manner whilst doing so will add credibility to your performance .

If that fails then try a game of "tit cricket" with the local police/mafia/vips mea nois .For maximum effect you will all need to be wearing a " No money , No honey " T-shirt and be as pink as a lobster with high blood pressure .

Good luck

the wanderers :D

been in quite a few of these type of clubs around thailand.
not really my scene music wise, but always found them friendly enough & hassle free.
you don't really need to do anything to attract any attention, just being there is enough

classic at the time, but not as good as the warriors though

even if youre into dance music, the music in the 'thai style' clubs is attrocious

as you say redzone, friendly enough, but your ear drums are likely to be assaulted
