Pick Ups in Bangkok

Post by clive »

Just had a customer return from a trip up north in one of our pick ups. I Had heard the rumour before but the customer has confirmed it, all pick ups without some sort of cover over the deck, inside the metropolitan area of Bangkok ie; inside the number 9 ring road, are now being stopped. If you have anything in the deck area, goods or passengers and no cover, it is an instant ticket! Fortunatley Hua Hin has a very laid back police force at the moment but the opportunity for lots of 200 Baht fines could just be irrestible!

That law has been in affect in BKK on the expressways anyway for sometime. (years) If it's for all roading in the metropolitan area well that's a new one.

Thank god I have a canopy on the truck so I will just ......blow.....on.....by.....them. :neener:
Why is it called 'after dark' when it really is 'after light'?

I seem to remember seeing recently - although it's a bit vague - that the laws had been, or were about to be, changed regarding the number of people allowed to ride in the back of pick ups and also the number of people allowed on a motorcycle. The OP sounds a bit different, but maybe they're connected?
How the vast majority get to work or school, if the above is the case, well heaven knows?

I've heard that the cover is only if the goods are higher then the trunk...

It is may be obligatory only if higher then roof top.

This or that, to be confirmed, but never heard of your version yet !

People are not allowed in the back of pick up on highway in Bangkok, paid 500 thb once.
Please sign here even it is in Thai and you do not have any clue what it states...

Nothing is allowed in the back of your pick truck on the expressways (Tollways) unless you have a cover over it or canopy totally enclosing it dosen't matter how high it is. If there is the slightest possiblity of anything falling out the back of your vechicle on the expressway you'll be donating to the police coffee fund. I got tagged 500 bath for having some rather long plants hanging out the back of the canopy returning from Chatuchak Market even know they were tied in and no way for them to come out. Even know they where covered it was just the fact that the flip up door was open on the canopy that I got tagged.

I wish the Police stop the crazy truck drivers - more dangerous than silly things in the back.

Yes agreed this has been the expressway law for many years now.

But if one abides by the law according to the brown shiney shoes, the 200 baht fines will go away.
