My favorite restaurant...
I've seen quite a few restaurants being bigged up recently and to be honest, after visiting them wasn't too impressed - I went to the much hyped Kim's Kitchen for dinner tonight and thought it was very average.
So I thought I'd big up my favorite place to eat. It's a little bar on the Khao Takiab beach owned by a guy called Ton. I don't think it has a name. The staff are great, especially Ton and his wife who will always try and show you a good time. The food is always great, especially the seafood, cooked to perfection every time. Try the Pad Cha Seafood for something a bit different or go on a Friday when a fantastic Massaman curry is on the menu.
How to get there - Drive through Khao Takiab until you get to the fork with the police cabin, take the right hand fork. Keep going, past the Oasis bar then take the first left. Drive all the way down to the beach. The bar is the first one you come to on the corner, right on the beach.
Check it out next time you're in Khao Takiab, you won't be dissapointed!

Yes often expats don't get to the better places Kelpie. I was taken to one on the beach behind one of the resorts once, between HH and Chaam. It was really good. Also some along the beach front in Prachuap. It does help a lot if you have a Thai to show you these places and to help with ordering. Its a shame that the majority of tourists never get - or daren't take - the opportunities to try them.

One I can highly recommend, and sounds like it is in a similar area to margaret's one, is Platoo, right next to the beach in between Hua Hin and Cha Am by what is being changed into another Marriott hotel. Quite a big place, and has karaoke boats(!) next to it, but the food and service has always been good, and of course, not really expensive. Big car park as well.

Itsara (spelling)
Beachfront North of main strip.
Itsara is the one located Nabkhad Rd. in Hua Hin ?
Yes they do have good food. The only drawback is they use to work with tour operators and if you have no booking, you may not get a table. That's what happended to me twice.

Yes Itseras the one off Naebkerhardt past the Singing Bar. Food very good, but I took some friends who were out on holiday once and they tried to work a non too clever scam with the bins. Every single item was billed seperately and written in Thai, but the huge stack of paper was too suspicious for 4 of us so I checked them and found a lot of duplicated items. Shame - never went back.
Best meal ever had to be at the large Chinese restaurant on Petkasem, near enough opposite Soi 39 or thereabouts. Heaving on Bank Hols but staff very obliging.

I have many favourites
Depends on your mood, cuisine, price range and location
Sara Jane's (Poonsuk) for excellent Isaan, Italian and European food
CoCos (soi 51) as above but with a beautiful gulf setting
Baan Monta (soi Damnoenkascin) as above
Ye old Buffalo tavern (bottom of Chomsin) for good Sunday roast and his ribs the best in Thailand
Korean B/Q (on Petchakasam just north of soi 51) Eat all you can cook for 99 Baht
For breakfasts Victoria, YOBT, Crawford's for full montys. Family friendly bar, Kims Kitchen and Baan Monta for medium size
Many more I'm sure
Used to use Itsara but despite good service nice aspect, was overpriced

Heard a lot of good things about Coco 51. Went down there at 7pm. They had hardly anything left on the menu. 3 of us got the lamb which wasn't rare, it was still alive! Had been cooked for about 30 seconds. Plus it took about 45 minutes to come. The staff were very slow and didn't have a clue about the menu. In my experience, The Dukes next door is a much better place with the exact same view. Maybe I just got Coco on a bad day though.

I think you caugt them on a bad day. 6 of us went there last Tuesday could be because I was the only Farang and we all ate Thai but it was excellent. I re
commend the Duck curry it was out of this world. The menu was very good as well. I have also eaten at Dukes. This was more European but still very good.

Favourite restaurant
Small place between Hua Hin & Cha am with tables on the beach.
Name translates something like "Sangwien" in English. Great seafood at reasonable prices, always busy.
BTW had exactly the same experience as Margaret C. at the Itsara about 18 months ago. My Thai wife questioned the bin and yes we had been overcharged. Never been back, it was an overated place anyways.
