Road up grade Soi 102
Any one hear if the city has any future plans to address the flooding problem up Soi 102. (ie: New sewer pipe) I was quite shocked to see the water level two weeks ago after the night of rain.

Much as it is needed, it will be a complete waste of time and money for at least two reasons; firstly, it will almost inevitably be built using sub standard materials and techniques because of the severe Thai problem of local corruption, and secondly, with all the heavy trucks which will continue to pound up and down it to build all those lovely housing developments it will fall apart by the end of the dry season, and be washed away in the next wet season! Water is so invasive that even if it was built to the highest standards it would still get damaged, and flooding in that area is inevitable whatever happens due to the geography. If global warming goes on it's predicted path in a few decades it will probably be permanently underwater anyway...(note to self - start a scuba diving company to wreck dive old housing developments)

Or a submarine shuttle service to all those prosaically named estates that have now hurriedly been renamed Atlantis 1, Atlantis 2.....

I have seen drainage works on Soi 102, including the installation of large concrete section pipes on at least two occasions over the last couple of years.
Both times the work was hurriedly done as a knee jerk reaction to the flooding of the area just over the railway track. It doesn't seem to have helped.
The new properties in that area seem particularly vulnerable, although even much further up Soi 102, at Baan Suk Sabai, there has been flooding by fast flowing water of around 8 inches deep.

That would be a wise move, if they assure things work there as well as in BKK, in comparison to the rest of this place.STEVE G wrote: You might be on to something there WL, I’ve just been hearing about a plan to develop Khorat into an international city in preparation for when Bangkok becomes inundated in about 30 years!
I had the joy of spending some days there this week which I hadn't done in quite some time. Utilities work, internet blows your hair off in comparison to the provinces, and people have a sense of urgency concerning business and other day to day matters. The mentality of 'fortress Bangkok' needs to be cloned many times over and distributed. Not the mess, just the style. Pete

Hello Y"all in Hua Hin and Beyond.

I Had seen a Map of Thailand how it would look like in when water levels rise as predicted by 6 to 12 Feet. it looks Scary. Bangkok would be European neck or more deep underwater, Pattaya and Hua Hin would then be reachable by Subs and what once was a booming resort town is then an underwater ghost town. or Huahin residences are creative and build a massive Glass dome around the Area. and market it as the worlds first underwater City!
I may also quote Mrs. Dawn:
Or a submarine shuttle service to all those prosaically named estates that have now hurriedly been renamed Atlantis 1, Atlantis 2.....
It could well be also Nautilus 1, 3, 3. or AquaMan Village 1, 2, 3, or it could even be Poseidon 1, 2... aehh Up's!!!
The Name Poseidon is allready been taken by an infamius Pub'n Discoteque in Bangkok.
(Mrs. Dawn you are only 1 post! away from the year where when I was born.)

Soi 102
Just been up there today to apply for a student visa for our grand daughter, from the newly located Thai Imigration office, the heavens opened up and most of the roads in the area, resembled rivers, some of the crossing points we encountered were at least two feet deep, but as they say, T.I.T. this is thailand.

Oh, not exactly 10 years, then. I haven't quite hit the grand old age of 38 yet!
A belated happy 28th birthday from all of us at HHAD, Understudy.

Re: Road up grade Soi 102
I have lived on Soi 102 for the last three years. Renting. We've blocked up the doors and sand bagged the shower drains for the next big one. This year has certainly been worse than before and it is all because of building developments filling in marshland. Water will always find the quickest path to the lowest point - basic rule of hydrology. And that is now Soi 102. Thank heavens I am moving in the next few weeks before the end-of-rainy-season floods truly kick in.Hobiecat wrote:Any one hear if the city has any future plans to address the flooding problem up Soi 102. Totally agree, it is soul destroying when your house get wrecked by flood water. Would not wish that experience on anyone!long-in-thailand wrote:I have lived on Soi 102 for the last three years.
