From AP.
Ousted Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's bid for English Premier League club Manchester City will not be blocked by Thai authorities despite an ongoing corruption probe and asset freeze, officials said Thursday.
Manchester City on Thursday recommended its shareholders accept a 81.6 million pounds (US$162 million; €121 million) takeover by Thaksin, who tabled the official bid even as Thai authorities acted to prevent him accessing much of his wealth inside Thailand.
"It's proof that the anti-graft agencies have only frozen (his) assets that were believed to have been acquired through corrupt means," said Col. Sansern Kaewkamnerd, spokesman for the military council that overthrew Thaksin in a coup last September and currently helps run the country.
"He still has a lot of money and can move around, making big business deals like this. That's his private matter. We will not interfere," Sansern told The Associated Press.

After reading all of the new since it looks like the message is that the decision is in the hands of the Premiership.

The link posted by Big Boy has the same page that the Thai TV showed briefly. However the dates tamp on the article now is before start of business UK time. The hot "news as it happens" Thai news channel made the statement at about 2:00 PM UK time so something may have been announced in the meantime.

The other likely possibility is the cultural difference. If a party is interested in doing business with another party and then something occurs, that forces the seller to check over a few things as in this case, it can mean in Thailand that you have pulled out but do not want to lose face.

In the west it means that you have to do some more checking and will get back later.

Thaksin Shinawatra says that Sven Goran Eriksson is one of the managers he is considering for the Sport City hotseat.
The former Thai Prime Minister, who has made a formal offer for Manchester City, has confirmed he has held preliminary discussions with the former England boss.

Dr Shinawatra said: “Yes, I have met him once last week. He is one of the names that my advisors have suggested to me.â€

Bangkok (dpa) - Deposed Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who on Thursday made a bid in London to buy the Manchester City football club for 81.6 million pounds (162.5 million dollars), will not return to Thailand this month to face corruption charges, his lawyer said.

The Manchester City board has said it will back Thaksin's attempted takeover of the club after the former prime minister, living in exile in London since his overthrow by a coup on September 19, 2006, lodged a formal bid via UK Sports Investment, a vehicle controlled indirectly by Shinawatra and his son and daughter.

"Thaksin will be using money belonging to his family to make the purchase," Thaksin's lawyer Noppodol Pattama told a press conference in Bangkok.

"Thaksin will become the president of Manchester City and will attend a friendship match between his club and Real Madrid on July 29."

The bid, apparently designed to impress Thailand's football-loving public, was well timed to keep Thaksin preoccupied with business in London and away from Bangkok, where he faces a host of legal challenges, but Noppodol denied any connection.

"There is no connection," said the lawyer, who acts as Thaksin's spokesman in Thailand. "It just so happened that we made the offer today."

Noppodol added that Thaksin was unlikely to return to Thailand to face corruption charges any time soon. "He will definitely not return this month," Noppodol told Deustche Presse-Agentur dpa by telephone.

On Tuesday, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) summoned Thaksin and his wife Potjaman to return to Thailand by June 29 to face charges that they concealed the true extent of their ownership in a company listed on the stock exchange.

Noppodol said Thaksin, in London, and Potjaman, currently in Singapore, could acknowledge the charges from abroad.

In Bangkok, Thai prosecutors Thursday morning filed corruption charges against Thaksin and his wife at the Supreme Court for a dubious land deal made in 2003 when Thaksin was still premier.

Prosecutors also asked the court to order the seizure of a 772- million-baht (22-million-dollar) plot of land along Bangkok's Ratchadapisek that Potjaman bought from the Bank of Thailand's Financial Institutions Development Fund in 2003 when Thaksin was still prime minister.

The couple stand accused of breaching the National Counter Corruption Act, which bars state officials and their spouses from doing business with a state agency.

If convicted, they could face three years imprisonment and a fine of up to 60,000 baht (1,714 dollars).

It was the latest of several legal blows delivered to Thaksin, a billionaire former telecommunications tycoon who as prime minister between 2001 to 2006 enjoyed unprecedented executive powers based on the popularity of his now defunct Thai Rak Thai (Thais Love Thais) Party.

Thaksin's wife Potjaman, who ran his business empire when Thaksin was in office, is said to be in Singapore where she is undergoing medical treatment.

On May 30 the Constitution Tribunal dissolved Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai party and banned him and 110 party executives from politics for the next five years.

Then on June 11 the Assets Examination Committee froze 21 local bank accounts of Thaksin and his family, tying up 53 billion baht (1.5 billion dollars) in family cash.

On Monday, the AEC froze another eight Shinawatra family accounts worth 8 billion baht (228.6 million dollars) and the Attorney General indicted Thaksin and his wife for the Ratchadapisek land deal.

Then on Tuesday the Department of Special Investigation summoned Thaksin and his wife to return to Thailand by June 29 to face charges of share-holding concealment or face arrest.

According to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) the Shinawatra family had reported holding 60.82 per cent of the shares in listed SC Assets, but allegedly failed to report another 20-per- cent holding via their offshore nominee firm Win Mark.

The couple could face five years imprisonment and fines if found guilty of breaking stock market regulations and face further charges of lying about their wealth to the government's national corruption committee.

Thaksin recently accused the government and justice system of bullying him and his family and last Friday promised to return to Thailand to defend his dignity, but it is still unclear when he will return to the kingdom.

"Taksin owns man city"

Took me a while to work out that this did not refer to the former premier's purchase of a gay entertainment district.

Quite right. The latest is that Thaksin has lodged the money (in an ESCROW A/C probably) on behalf of his company owned by himself, his daughter and his son. Man City are backing his bid as has stated that the money came from personal family funds. He was made to swear over a bible that he was telling the truth. His exact words were "The money is mine. F**k you southern nancies. Long live Boyx Town."

This was enough for the Citizens. Where there's muck there's brass.

Man City have now recruited all out of work, weather girls, female journalists and models to attract the rampant Sven Goran Ericson to the City Stadium.

The plan, if the offer is accepted by the premier league, will be to rename the club to its former name of Ardwick AFC to avoid people in Asia confusing the club with the other Mancy club. Renaldo and Rooney have already been approached and asked if they will remain at the club after a possible Thaksin takeover.

The real bosses of the club, the Gallagher Brothers have stayed silent throughout the negotiations but are believed to be working on and album to celebrate the take over. A Thai flag has been seen fluttering over Noel's luxury penthouse in Moss Side.

Some Liverpool fans have been on the rampage breaking into people back gardens and setting fire to Everton football shirts with Chang written on them as a protest. Other have stolen the shirts and with the clever use of tippex and a a felt tip pen have changed the logo to Stangeways FC and put them back on the washing lines.

Good one, Guess. Made me laugh.
Here's more:

I note that the brat pack are on the board again. Where are the gardener, cook, cleaner and driver?
Don't worry MC. You'll be sold off at a huge profit as quickly as possible - probably to Mr T's Chinese or Singaporean friends.
One thing that does make me think is whether we'll get any live MC games on the telly over here now? I'm quite serious about that. I can't imagine that the Generals will want pictures of Thaksin parading around Maine Road (or whatever it's called these days) piped into millions of homes in Thailand.
Could be interesting. The first time a football match gets censored over here for political reasons?
