Meteorological Department issued a new weather forecast

Post by Bas »

The Meteorological Department has issued an announcement for members of the public to be aware of the current weather situation after many areas in Thailand have experienced heavy rains and flood problems.

1. The low pressure troughs in the central and eastern regions are moving down to the upper South and the Gulf of Thailand on October 10th.

2. The high pressures from China will be covering the northern region of Thailand on October 9th.

- The pressures will cause the North and the Northeast to encounter less precipitation, but the weather will be cooler.

- The central and eastern regions will continue to face heavy rains, especially from October 6th to 8th. However, the situation will gradually improve in the future.

- The upper region in the Gulf of Thailand will experience more rains, starting October 9th.

- The southern region along the Andaman coast will also face continuous heavy rains.

The Meteorological Department will continue to update the weather condition to the general public regularly.

I have just seen the local news and there is some bad flooding to the north of Bangkok, in one area it was about up to the top of the doors, I think it was Ayatutha.

Fon Dtok!!!
:cuss:

Well the coup has not impacted our vacation, but the rain sure has. As I sit here in HH it is raining hard. Two weeks ago, it only rained for an hour in the afternoon.

We were in BKK last week, and got dumped on regularly. Came back today, and it was nice until about 6:00 p.m., when all hell broke lose again. Oh well. at least it is warm rain!!

Time to go out and check out the wet bar/wet T-shirt scene

Nee how mar Dawn,

I cannot offer any advice on your drying situation but as far as the smelly dogs are concerend why don't take advantage of the rain and squirt doggy shampoo all over them and make them stay out in the rain.

Four languages in one post. Very impressive so I had top add fifth just for good measure.

Guess, you'd better be careful saying things like that. While you're residing in one of our compounds I might mistake you for a dog & give you a fon dtok shower! :thumb:

BTW, I think it's only 3 languages - English, French & Thai. Unless I've missed one... :?

FYI, just received a news alert that the Chao Praya river at Nakansawan is at it's highest level in 60 years. There seems to be great worry now that there is nothing that can be done to prevent severe flooding in Bangkok once all that water reaches there...and it's still raining up there. Pete

Floods for another month in Chao Phraya basin, Irrigation Department warns
BANGKOK, Oct 13 (TNA)

Flooding in Thailand's Chao Phraya river basin is expected to continue until next month, as the run-off moving south is still rising, Royal Irrigation Department (RID) chief Samart Chokkanapitak said on Friday.

As of Friday, official death toll rose to 47. Damage from the flood was estimated at 305.3 million baht (US$8.1 million), with more than 8,000 homes damaged, according to the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

Delivering the bad news before boarding a helicopter to inspect flooding in eight Chao Phraya river basin provinces - Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, and Nakhon Sawan, Mr. Samart said he was concerned that the flooding would stay longer than previously expected--at least until mid-November.

Floodwaters in the central plains will not recede until late next month when the situation is expected to return to normal, he said.

The rising floodwaters in Nakhon Sawan are overflowing into nearby Uthai Thani. Many areas along the Chao Phraya River, from Nakhon Sawan to parts of Bangkok and Samut Prakan are now in worrisome situations. Suphan Buri, and Lop Buri could not be spared from floods as well, he said.

He advised all communities in the at-risk areas to be prepared to deal with flooding during this period.

The RID chief said the department is looking for more tracts of land available in the interior countryside areas far from the Chao Phraya River in order to divert excess water from the country's central waterway.

Senior officials are scheduled to focus on flood responses during a special meetng Saturday. Special attempts are being made to local low-lying areas which are still capable of absorbing water so that they can be used for water retention during this critcal period.
