Post by Big Boy »

Police have arrested the alleged murderer of US child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey in Thailand today, apparently after applying for a teaching job at a private school.

Big Boy, as well as that one, they got another Aussie in Thailand as well the day before

Australian paedophile nabbed in Thailand

Australian man not allowed to leave his country because he is on a list of child-sex offenders has been caught in Thailand and will be deported, Thai police said.

Paul Thompson, 57, who "has committed dozens of sexual offences" on Australian children over "several decades", was arrested on Friday while leaving for Cambodia to renew his Thai visa, immigration police said in a statement.

Thompson, who told reporters he was sentenced to two years' jail in 1990 in Perth for "tickling and stroking children in a swimming pool", was put on the Australian National Child Offender Register and required to make regular reports the police.

But Thai police quoted their Australian counterparts as saying Thompson fled to Southeast Asia using various aliases.

He came to Thailand in June after being denied entry to Indonesia and Malaysia, Thai police said.

"He is a threat to society," Thai immigration police chief Suwat Tumrongsiskul told reporters.

Australian diplomats in Bangkok were not available for immediate comment.

The thing that sickens me about the JonBenet Ramsey case is that for a decade the US public & media have been pointing a (sometimes not very) discreet finger at the parents. The mother has just died of cancer & now it turns out it wasn't them. Wonder if they'll get an apology, or whether it will be "Well, they were never charged, so no-one really believed it was them"
Did you see the guy on TV? Looked almost pleased to have been caught! Just sick, the whole thing...

The Mother was told before she died that this guy caught today was a chief suspect and that he would be apprehended. Seems they have been tailing and watching for quite some time. She died in late June and now mid August. They told her, from what I understand, in May. Hopefully the fact that she knew this gave her some peace. Pete

Going slightly off topic but I also find the whole child beauty queen thing that JonBenet was a part of more than a bit creepy. It seems to be a really big deal in the States but it also seems like it would be a magnet for types like the fella arrested in BKK. Anybody have any comments on that?

Jaime,

I must admit, I find it very strange as well. I've seen clips of her performances several times on SKY News today. If that doesn't amount to child abuse in itself (making her portray herself as a mature adult when she was only 6 years old), then what does?

Its no wonder that creeps like the guy arrested are led astray - its as if her parents were fishing, using her as bait.

Any idea how old he was when the murder was committed? He only looked mid twenties when I saw him on TV.

Bigboy, he must have been 31, as in the paper here, it has him at being 41 now.

I know that it must have been hell for the parents to know that they were innocent, but everyone was pointing the finger at them.
The only thing is, it will always be in the back of peoples minds, that although they have now caught someone for it, did the parents still have anything to do with it.
I do not think that the parents will ever loose the stigma that has been attached to this case (even if they have now been fully exonerated).

I hope the bastard gets life when they send his sorry ass back to the USA.

That is ........ if he did it. I read on AOL that there are some doubts about his confession and that he might just be a wacko, trying to get his 15-minutes of fame by pretending to be the killer.

I've been hearing exactly the same on SKY News this morning. It seems the only evidence the police have is the guy's own confession. It is amazing, if true, that this investigation has been going on for so long encompassing many Asian countries with such limited evidence. I guess the detectives leading the enquiry fancied a freebie tour of the Far East.

Back in Colorado they have DNA evidence from the crime scene, that does not match the Mother or Father. That will be proof of the pudding once he extradited and tested back there. Pete

Big Boy,

I also find children's beauty contests highly disturbing & question the mentality of parents who allow (or even push) their daughter to participate.

However, I'm hoping you just phrased your remark wrongly when you said "creeps...are led astray". Led astray? Paedophiles are led astray by little girls in make up? Paedophiles are sick individuals (in all senses of the word) who need no excuses or leading on to commit depravity on children. Just like rapists aren't "led on" by a woman wearing skimpy clothing - someone is either a paedophile or a rapist or they're not. Other people's behaviour doesn't influence their basic urges and whether they act on those urges. All of the men on this thread (that have commented on the beauty pageants) have said that they find those images disturbing - so, obviously seeing little girls dancing around in tiny outfits with full make up, does not lead men with normal sexual urges astray.

And as for the comment about the parents fishing, using her as bait; I find that as offensive to the parents as accusing them of the murder. As I said, I also find these pageants nauseating, but I would imagine that none of those parents wants to attract a paedophile to their child. OK, they're not doing much to help the situation, but I can't see that their actions are intentionally done to attract weirdos!

Hi Sultry, he was shown on CNN giving a kind of confession in a Thai police station and he definitely seemed to be playing for the cameras, and he is certainly a wacko, whether he did it or not!
