Preparations were well underway for this weekend's event when I was at the lake earlier.

Bailing out one of the smaller boats at the launch dock, with another one sinking fast :D

Towing the start raft into position.

A crew moving a boat along the road, getting ready to launch it (trapping me in my parking bay whilst doing it ). Actually, they saw me waiting to pull out, and moved the entire thing back along the road until I'd gone.

I love boats, and the sun was shining, so took a wander down this morning to take a look.

As I found a suitable 'shady' viewing position, I was admiring the colourful bow markings

The first race was in 7 man boats, similar to to boats I'd seen Friday i.e. one sinking, and one being baled out. Methinks just as well they were wearing life vests.

Next up was the one man boats. I'd seen old ladies selling their wares in boats like this at floating markets, and even selling beer in Ha Long Bay, but I'd never seen such craft used for racing before.

One common theme throughout the event was this was not just a young man's sport. Some of the rowers looked older than me, and believe me, that is old.

Beside our viewing position were moored a couple of the larger boats. It was very interesting to see them crewing up. One poor guy actually had to stand in the lake, holding the boats steady.

Then the big boys started racing. Always such a sight seeing all of those oars and oarsmen working in unison.

When we'd seen enough (I wonder if anybody stays for the entire event if they aren't competing, or are WAGs), Mrs BB directed me onto the road to the local market, where she bought her lunch (yuk!).

Thank-you for the report, I haven't made it there for some years.
One time it was being televised and we made it on the screen. I suppose the cameraman was running out of things to film between races so a couple of farangs would fill a shot for a minute or so.
