Paris Paralympics August 2024

Post by PeteC »

Paralympics

I stress the above. Worth a watch as all the BS we've seen in the normal Olympics won't be there?

Those athletes need support and hopefully it will be televised in Thailand, and some will watch.

All too true PeteC!

I and a childhood friend (Dai_L for those playing Superbru) have a very close connection (yep, Rugby). Years ago, I shattered my knee which put me out of playing rugby for 18 months. As a "youngster", it was devastating - I was part of a bloody good team - things went tits up.

Dai as always was none too plussed with me feeling sorry for myself and introduced me to a close friend of his cousin - the poor bugger had lost both legs below the knee. He however went all in for anything he could or even couldn't do. He fixed on "Wheelchair Rugby" - Dai and myself may have shown him some aspects of Rugby, but he has shown us both a hell of a lot more and continues to do so..... Don't ever call these athletes or others involved in the multitude of sports and events "disabled" - they will truly teach you a thing or two!

Just as an add-in, "Wheelchair Rugby" originated in Canada... :thumb:

I'm a big big fan of the paraolympics. My sister suffered polio when she was 2 years old. The doctors said she would be wheelchair bound before she was 20. She took up swimming and won a host of medals.
She died in her 70's having led a productive life and was fit and able right until her death.
She wore a caliper but other than that, she handled her disability very well.

And huge respect to her! :thumb:

The cousin's friend, Pharvey, a war injury? I think about your timeline description and age + -, plus I don't think the UK was that active in the Vietnam business. Perhaps something else.

He was in the armed forces - a member of the Parachute Regiment based in Northern Ireland in the 80's, we're youngsters to many here :D  Dai_L also served, I didn't but have huge respect for those that did and count myself lucky to count several as dear friends. "Michael" lost his legs in an explosion that took the lives of many innocents that he was trying to protect. I'm no fan of war, terrorism or those that support it.... I am a huge fan of those who try to overcome it and also those that overcome physical "issues"...

Apologies for the rant...  :offtopic:

TRUE and all other service providers have apparently given up on these games. None of it is televised anywhere here from what I can find. Perhaps it's available on-line somewhere.

AIS were the main provider for the real Olympics, and they are also offering 12 channels for these games. AIS is a free download, and works fine on Smart TVs.
