The Beer Collection / Bluport
A couple of days ago I tried a new restaurant in Bluport. It’s called the Beer Collection and is located next to the Coffee Club near the main entrance. I ordered Egg Benedict with smoked salmon. I must say it was by a long, long way the worst I have ever eten. Instead of being served on a muffin it was served on a very small piece of cheap sliced bread. There was hardly any salmon on it. The two poached eggs were really cold (I’m sure they had been in a fridge). One of the eggs was so hard it must have been cooked for at least 10 minutes. The hollandaise sauce wasn’t hollandaise sauce and whatever it was it tasted awful. Add to this that it was probably the most expensive Egg Benedict I have ever had. I was frankly disgusted and of course complained (to no avail). Next time I fancy an Egg Benedict I will go to the Coffee Club next door. They make a real one there!

If that’s their typical standard of service, I can’t see them surviving very long. I know it isn’t always easy, but I’d have been very reluctant to pay the full price they were asking.HarryVardon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:32 pm A couple of days ago I tried a new restaurant in Bluport. Thanks for the headsup Harry. Also it's nice to blow off steam and we're good listeners.
I 100 percent would have taken a pic of it, sent it back and only paid for my drink. English muffins are the only recipe and they are freely available in Thailand. This was 'smoked salmon on toast'.
Any idea what the standard of their other dishes is, because we're all guessing one thing at the moment?
Question for mods: Is giving an honest but very poor report of food standards 'defamatory' in Thailand?
It's not a personal slur but we all know what harsh impositions the Thai authorities place on freedom of expression.

Just been to Morning Bread in Soi 94 where I also had Egg Benedict. They didn't have smoked salmon so I had it with sausage, ham and bacon. It also contained a salad of lettice, tomato and onion and was served on freshly homemade brown bread. Not original, I admit, but very delicious. About 150 Baht cheaper than Beer Collection.
My wife had sea bass at Beer Collection. I didn't try it but she wasn't that happy with it. It was also expensive for what she got. I will certainly not be going there again!

Thanks. Of course the words 'Bluport' and 'expensive' generally go together for farang stuff.
I guess the takeaway is ask what you're going to get if ordering Eggs Benedict.

Technically, if it can potentially harm an individual or business, it probably violates one of Thailand's silly defamation laws; there is no 'freedom of expression' here.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 8:20 am Question for mods: Is giving an honest but very poor report of food standards 'defamatory' in Thailand?
