Tough choice to make between two very strong contenders. I would have preferred the captain to be in midfield, but I'm positive Terry will be up to the task.

As a Scot I am surprised to find myself wishing JT the best of luck. A great guy, a great footballer and I believe will be a great captain for England.

A very unasuming, true professional - learnt well from some earlier mishaps.

He will be the proudest man in England tonight.

Saw his first game for Chels and many since - awesome.

Well, as a Spurs season ticket holder, I think it should have been Sol Campbell.

Well done S M. JT is a great choice. Two years to get England back to the top. Best of luck to both of you.

Not only dropped, but semi-retired with Portsmouth. He wanted a move to Europe, but had to settle for the South Coast of England. I've heard that if he stands on top of that new tower thing at Portsmouth, with a very strong telescope, he should just about be able to see the Isle of Wight on a good day.

JD,

I'm afraid you're correct. The great man has been put out to grass at long last http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 782613.stm

He was a loyal servant to England, who did not always perform to his greatest potential. However, he's had his time, and its time to build for the future. All England supporters should be thanking him for his efforts over the years.
