New Year's Eve entertainment and fireworks

Post by fft100 »

Has anyone heard or seen any info as to what is or isn't going ahead this year ?

Are the hotel's still doing fireworks ? Is there an extension on opening times ?

Last year the beach was only half as busy as usual and while centara and Hilton did not do fireworks, the intercontinental, holiday inn and cha-am still did. We also let off a few lanterns and had a beer on the beach. Very enjoyable.

Thanks

Considering that NY fireworks were banned last year there were still a good amount set off along the beach. I'm sure this year will be no exception. Ban or not, fireworks will still abound.

The recently opened hotel The Standard has a number of events although they have cancelled the visit of a famous Bangkok DJ they told me. Non residents can join in but must present their vaccine certificate and do an additional test on arrival at the hotel! All hotel guests (half of their 200 rooms) have been tested on arrival. The bars will serve drinks until 1.00am.....no mention of fireworks!

Now I have heard the fireworks may take place at 22:00. Why is it so hard to find this info in English?

New Year’s events are not banned

Authorities have cancelled state-sponsored New Year’s Eve parties – though the Tourism Authority of Thailand vowed to forge ahead with theirs – but a government spokesperson assures that the private sector is still allowed to host New Year’s countdown celebrations as long as Covid-19 safety regulations are strictly followed.

The government spokesperson reassured that, despite rumours circulating that the Thai government has put a stop to all New Year’s Eve events, privately organised events that have already received permission to operate will still be allowed to carry on, though Covid-19 safety measures and procedures must be beefed up and strictly adhered to.

The current restrictions allow well-ventilated venues and restaurants to host events and serve alcohol until 1 am, just after the countdown. Larger events will over 1,000 guests must check that all attendees are fully vaccinated or take an antigen test kit.

After a quick browse around google, all the major hotels and resorts are advertising countdown parties with firework displays.

Despite rumours and restrictions, I'd guess that the beach will be well attended.
