Soi 91/116 Crossroads Traffic Lights

Post by Big Boy »

I see the new traffic lights on this previously dangerous junction have been switched on today. I drove to Pranburi earlier and they were off, but fully functional on the way home.

Well at least they're functional now. Up to a day or so ago they were just flashing.

I still maintain that this junction was perfect for a roundabout.

In the real world maybe, but not in Thailand. Thais on their own are a danger with roundabouts. We're getting to the silly season now - I've already seen some deliberate crazy tourist antics on the Soi 88 Railway Crossing roundabout recently.

Thais + Tourists + Roundabouts = Very Dangerous.

Perhaps the thread should be split with a Thai roundabout etiquette spinoff.
I nearly rear ended a scooter at the Chomsin railway roundabout the other day as she stopped in case the car coming up from Petchkasem did not stop. There are ‘give way’ signs there which I have yet to see any notice taken of. Similar situation at the bypass roundabout on Pala U road. If you expect drivers coming off the highway to give way then you will sooner or later hit one.
We have roundabouts in the estate I live in and few cars follow what would be accepted practice anywhere else. Why go all the round when it is quicker to just cut the corner if turning right.
As for the soi 116 lights, it will come as no surprise when there are casualties due to drivers ignoring them. Hopefully not but based on the videos on YouTube it will only be a matter of time.

I've tried to split the thread without losing too much meaning. Roundabout discussion here viewtopic.php?f=44&t=37405
