Converting CDs to MP3

Post by Guess »

I have found a plethora of solutions on the web mostly for free.I have tried many but can not get the desired results quickly.

What I want to do is to convert existing Audio CDs to MP3 and store them on hard disk.

Has anybody been though this that can give me some sugestions on which software to use. All I really bneed to create on the MP3 tag is the artist track and album.

It worked a treat in Nero 7.0 but now I am told that my free use has expired and can I supply my credit card details. Of course I am not going to do that.

You can convert cd's to mp3's using itunes which is a free downlaod from the apple site. I have been using it for years and find it good. They have versions for Mac and Windows.

I've always used a program called Audiograbber, not sure if its still available. You also had to download and additional codec called LAME which enabled you to get bitrates upto 320.

I'll have a look if I still have it.

I've got to agree with Randy here - download iTunes - you can set it up exactly as you want, so for example it will automatically import and convert any audio CD you insert into your PC. One thing that may interest you is that you can set it up so that another computer can 'share' the music files siored on another in the same local network without hving to copy them across. The only thing iTunes does not handle is any Windows Media Audio, but there is software out there to convert WMA to mp3. Typical of Microsoft to make their own audio format when mp3 was the standard...

Thank you all for the valuable advice. It's saved me some time. I must bbe stupid to have been using iTunes this time as Juke Box without knowing what other features it contains. I still have the manual process of changing the CDs but that is not a major problem.

I will check out audiograbber when I get a chance.
