I dont know what kind of visa she got,but if its a 3 month tourist visa she will need a return ticket.
I only did this visa in sweden, but I think its the same in all of schengen.

Even though your gf has a visa, entry to the UK is still at the discretion of the immigration officer upon arrival. Having a one way ticket will not look good if she is coming to the UK on a tourist visa. Get a return unless she has a settlement visa, in which case a one way ticket should be fine.

Just for oasisdave to note; the UK is not party to the Schengen Treaty, which means her visa is only valid for the UK and not for the rest of the EU. Therefore if you want to go to Spain, France, Italy, Belgium or wherever in Europe with your gf, she will have to apply at one of their embassies - usually in London - for a tourist visa. But be warned: the British embassy in BKK is a veritable paragon of understanding and professionalism compared to some of these wankers!

She'll definitely need a return ticket as has been said. I assume that her visitor's visa is for 6 months - that's normally what's given by British Emb. I'm pretty sure that an open return is OK if you don't know how long she'll stay for, just make sure that the the visa doesn't expire before the validity of the ticket. So, don't get a one year open return.
As Jaime said, immigration in the UK is "the last line of defence". They won't be impressed with no return on a VV. Also, there's every chance that she won't even be allowed to board the aircraft in BKK unless there's a return. The onus is now on the airline to ensure peoples' travel docs are in order. If they let her fly and she's refused entry when she lands, then the airline's under a duty to fly her back at the earliest opportunity.
If all the above's in order, there shouldn't be any problem.

lomu is right on this one
i have read about someone not being allowed to board becouse she didnt have the right visa for the country she was conecting from (swiss i think )

so i would advise on a direct flight
this will also be less daunting for her not having to make a conection from another country

My Thai sister-in law arrived in UK via Helsinki without a transit visa for Finland but maybe other countries are stricter. If travelling indirectly via a country that is not covered by the entry visa for the destination country then it is probably worth enquiring about a transit visa before purchasing your ticket, or getting a direct flight as jambo suggests.

Isn't it the whole idea of the settlement visa that you are meant to organise the wedding in those six months and for your gf to ultimately stay? It would seem strange to go for a return ticket to prove your gf is going back to thailand when the whole basis of the visa is that she is going to settle in the UK.

I think what Jaime says is correct. Surely you have six months to get married. I thought a settlement visa was for two years after which your wife can apply for indefinite leave to remain.

When Mrs Jaime came to the UK it was 1 year to wait before indefinite leave to remain could be applied for but we were already legally married. I am pretty sure it is now two years for gf's as lomu posted.

Dave,

For a settlement visa, a one way flight is all you need. However, you may find that some airlines will not fly somebody of Thai nationality one way - just shop around and you'll be OK - no point wasting that extra cash on the return flight.

You'll also find it cheaper to buy the ticket in Thailand.

I hope you are right,

I always thought a settlement visa was longer than 6 months.

A friend of ours (thai) just got her visa for 6 months and that is not a settlement visa.
