Seems Chiang Rai suffered as well. Quite a bit of building damage shown on Thai news, but no reports of casualties yet.

Breaking news on Thairath, nothing on the English Thai media.

 Some of the TV News images that are being shown at the moment are quite scary. Nobody reported as hurt yet, which is amazing.

Maybe the topic heading should be changed to "Chiang Rai Earthquake"?

For anybody with an academic bent, the IRIS data for the quake is here http://www.iris.edu/dms/nodes/dmc/tools/event/4601017 There is a *lot* of raw data accessible behind the links.

That looks like the stretch of Petchkasem Road just after Kui Buri!

What scares me is that they have little to no experience here with earthquakes and I'm afraid they'll start patching up buildings cosmetically and do no structural assessment. The wife had the same thought while watching the Thai news this morning. Several schools damaged, some 3 stories high. They really need to take off any blinders and demolish things if any question about structural integrity. I really hope we don't see aftermath disasters in the news later on. Pete

Patching up damaged buildings is an issue for sure, but given the likelihood that there is going to be zero insurance cover / pay-out I would think it is inevitable that it will happen.

Separately, though, the 'shear' strength of houses on stilts is next to zero. I would expect thousands to at least have been brought down to ground level but so far I've seen nothing.

Some encouraging news from Thai TV 3 this morning in that the 3 story school that prompted my above post yesterday will be torn down, proper repair impossible. Seems they're doing things right. :thumb: Pete
