Motorbike Touring friends wanted

Post by Peterontheroad »

Hi Touring Bikers
I'm new in this forum and are looking for new friends with the passion for motorbike touring (not only to the nearest bar). Other social activities are fine as well, I have a Danish wife and she also want to join for weekend tours.
I'm a semi old Danish guy on 52 and have had a number of bikes since I build my first at age 14, now I have gotten to the point where I buy and drive a bike and don't spent a lot of time on repairs and fancy equipment - Been there - done that. Latest bike is a Kawa Versys I have owned since 6 weeks and have so far done 3,500 km on a few weekend tours to test it out and it does the job OK on the Thai roads. BTW still waiting for the number plate, In BKK they just kick you on the road without any Red plate.
I work in Bkk and have a house in Sam Roy Yod where I spend weekends and prefer to commute on my bike.
BTW I meet one Canadian guy named Paul last year in Hua Hin (also around 50 Years) when I had a bite at Burger King but unfortunately I lost his number when I changed my mobile lately, maybe some in this forum knows Paul ?, he seemed to be an experienced biker and had toured Europe as well as north America.

Hope to hear from fellow bikers soon.

Regards Peter

Welcome fellow biker! This is where you want to look, we have a dedicated topic for arranging rides: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=21738

I'll be game when I return from my current ride, about half way between Pai and Mae Hong Song at the moment on a battered CRF Motard I rented in Chiang Mai ...

Took that shot yesterday, looking out over the valley now using the laptop, my phone just about makes calls, let alone anything fancy!

Peter,
I'll be up for it too but I'm currently working in Australia and keeping busy with work. Will be in touch when I get back to H.H. Might not be available till 2014....

Edit: I have a Ninja 650. Regarding the Canadian guy you met; the description matches a guy we know but his name is not Paul. We will introduce you to him when we meet for a run.

Must be a shock going from the CB to the CRF. How do you find the Moto version?

Its more suited to the roads up here, only problem is that as a rental it has done a lot of miles and is a bit loose if you know what I mean!

ahhhh some more loose bikes in Thailand.......

Edit: I hired an Er-6n when in Chiang Mai and it was great fun. Yeah it had been trashed and was a tad clunky....

Welcome to the forum Peter.
Always nice to hear from a fellow biker and a fellow dane.
Unfortunately I'm out of Thailand at the moment, but will be back in a couple of months. I can only recomend the bike runs announced on the link that Buksida posted. It's always a good ride and both my wife and I like to join when possible.
That Canadian guy wouldn't happen to be riding a blue Yamaha fazer by any chance ?
Hopefully when I get there I will be riding a 2014 ZX14-R set up for touring (bar raisers, luggage rack etc.) but if Kawasaki should mess up delivery I still have my old Ninja 650.

Hi
Nice to hear from you guys and even a fellow dane.
I will look in the link Buksida posted. I'm planning to spend a week or so going to the north over Christmas or New year depending on workload, its a beautiful area and a bikers dream on mountain roads, have only been there by car so far.
The Canadian in HH was talking about a Honda CBR 900 as far as I remember, he had earlier owned a Honda Pan Europe 1100 that he took to EU from Canada for a tour.
Hope to see you for a ride when you are back in Thailand / HH

Did GTNL change the Fazer to a Honda CBR 900 ?

Hi Pete

The guys here have pretty well filled you in on the correct details!! Name is Tom and I mentioned to you that I had a CBR929rr Honda at the time we met at Burger King (more free advertisement!!). I recall you said you were saying somewhere south of HH. I posted a little blurb and a photo from last Saturday's 295 KM ride with Ginjaninja on the "Bikers Thread". I think it is mentioned on there that Hilux, Ginjanjija, and a few others are planning that trip north as well, via Issan then up. Think that the dates are Jan 18th or so and onward. I am waiting for a Rifle Fairings tall windshield for the current Yamaha FZS1000 as the upright riding position puts too much strain on my neck at highway speeds. It was shipped from California a few days ago, so hopefully it arrives soon and I can fit it up!
Look forward to meeting up again.
