Post by turtle2012 »

Yes, indeed it is a rip-off. I pay 4,700 each way to use AOT (Airports of Thailand Cars) and I use them because they're normally very professional and timely. I'd avoid the cheaper taxi firms because they're frankly very unpredictable. AOT is regarded as the most expensive. Your hotel is trying to take advantage.

Other options are going to Anusawaree (Victory Monument) in Bangkok and finding a minibus heading for Hua Hin. That will cost 150 Bt. The hotel in Hua Hin will arrange the return and could also obtain a private-hire taxi for you. I'd bet they'd charge 2,500.

I have been using Hua Hin Taxi's but I was dissatisfied with the driving standard of the last driver. He'd been waiting at the airport all day and was tired. I'm not sure why because he could sleep in his van. Frankly the journey home to Hua Hin was hair-raising. He continually pressed and released the gas pedal for the whole journey, so we were lurching forwards and backwards. I haven't used them since and shan't again.

I recently used the train from Hua Lampong Station. It was behind schedule all the time and I reached Hua Hin five or more hours after leaving Bangkok. The second class seat cost 100 Baht or more.

You have to book the first-class seats. There is a help-line to call. Possibly they have English speakers. It's worth a try.

A further option is to hail a taxi in Bangkok and say you want to go to Hua Hin. It's on their charge card hanging on the back of the front passenger seat. I believe it says 1,300 baht. They might refuse or ask for more money and you could then agree. That is technically against the law.

Another option is to call the official taxi booking number and they will arrange for a taxi to pick you up and take you and that will be official.

I believe this is the link to the forum recommended taxi firm http://www.taxihuahin.net/ - they charge 2600 baht. There are many private taxi firms that charge about 2000 baht +/- 200 baht, but unless you have a personal recommendation, you may be taking a chance on getting a reliable driver.

5000 baht from the hotel sounds like a rip-off!!
