Soon to arrive in HH with children)

Post by Home_and_away »

Hello:) Our family moves around quite a lot (currently living in Europe) and soon we will be in Huahin for 5 mnths, so I would appreciate any advice on life in HH with children)The sooner the date, the more I realize that I still have so much to learn about HH.. The kids are 7 and 10, so I've been looking for info on schools and Somtawin and Yamsaard are our two options. The other question is where to rent a house. I think we will have a look around and do some househunting ourselves. Can anyone recommend a nice area of Huahin for us to live with children? And finally, I realize that the newbies' questions must be really annoying, so sorry in advance) I am actually searching the forum for the answers but if anyone feels like saying anything, welcome and thanks)

Welcome to the forum. Have a good look around the various sections here, and ask away when you don't find an answer.

You can't really narrow it down to where is good because we've got kids. There's kids everywhere.

Do you want to be in town, close to the beach, etc.

Probably not so close to the beach as I understand that means more moneywise. And one gets tired of the beach quite soon anyway. We'll rent a car for going to the seaside and doing the shopping. I was thinking more about the outskirts of HH actually. Usually life with children consists of school, shopping and keeping them interested, not bored... So there should be something to do with them. At home we go out to parks a lot, they go to sports sections and so on.. Our life really is about them. Maybe some areas are more fit for kids? Thanks a lot for the answers!:)

By the sound of it, it sounds as though you have not been to Hua Hin before? A good idea would be to target areas close to whichever school you select (assuming of course that you can get your children in?), to avoid long travelling twice a day. So my priority would be to firm up on the school and then get in touch with property agents to show you a selection of properties within say a 5km radius.

Sounds smart, thank you. From what I've read on the forum,I didn't get the impression that it could be a problem to get them into school?

Hi I note you say you are in HH for just 5 months. With the long summer holidays coming up for schools in the UK and Europe, is it worth putting the children into a Thai school for such a short time ? I would think that the school would teach their lessons in Thai, so the children would maybe thrown in at the deep end, so to speak. It might be an important time, especially for the 10yr old. If it is work that brings you to HH maybe think of a private tutor? Maybe someone knows if there is an English school.

Both the schools the OP mentioned are English or have English and Thai programs. I have 3 kids in Yaamsard the 2 youngest are in a full English program only the Thai language class is taught in Thai.

It would be the best choice if he does move to Soi 102.

They've already been thrown around quite a lot, they take it fine, thankfully))

What do they feed the kids at Yamsaard? I am not sure if it was about Somtawin or Yam-d, but I read somewhere there's a menu where you tick this or that for the week ahead.
