My gf is a teacher and has been offered a posting in Hua Hin. I am semi retired and currently live in Pattaya but would move there to be with her. However, dont want to go to a sleep hollow so to speak. Need good contact with other expats to sit, chat and have a beer, discuss and whinge about the world, as we do.
What are the options for such places there, also could someone please advise likely rental costs, one b/room condo, furnished, reasonably central location somewhere near the water, long term.
Cost of living there? Have noticed a bit of inflation here in Pattaya last 12 months, is the same happening there in Hua Hin. Transport (have a m/cycle), internet reliability etc.
Many thanks,
living in Hua Hin
Re: living in Hua Hin
Its certainly quieter than pattaya, but much nicer,i suggest booking a guesthouse for a week in central hua hin and checking out the place for yourself.Theres a few watering holes talked about here that you could investigate, jws quiz nights once a month seems to attract a lot of expats, might be worth bending a few ears there for advice.

HuaHins' beaches aren't a patch on Pattayas! I used to walk for miles either way out of Pattaya along the beach. Plenty of places to stop for food and drinks, and plenty of options for transport back to the centre if needed. You can't do that in HuaHin.bkkalex wrote:Yeah make sure you check out the beaches etc. it really is alot nicer here
But yes it is nicer, and it is possible to adapt. The place creeps up on you while you're not looking. There isn't anywhere near the same level of expat activities like darts, pool, quiz leagues etc but there are Sois like 80 that could maybe fit the bill for sitting and passing the time of day. And there's certainly much less bother - (no Dogs Bollocks!)
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

No comparison in my mind, H.H. is miles ahead of Pattaya. We looked at Jomtien once, only once!! but we find here is a much more friendly place altogether, even the whingers are of a better class!!

Come and have a look man, it is only 3 hours away and small enough to really see what's about if you stay one night - or don't stay and you will still get a very good idea.mogo51 wrote:My gf is a teacher and has been offered a posting in Hua Hin. Many thanks,
It does not matter where you come from, it's where you are going that matters.

Not even on a Ninja!!Ginjaninja wrote:three hours from Pattaya to Hua Hin? By speedboat?
Re: living in Hua Hin
3hr 30min is pretty normal in a car, so i reckon a crazy biker on Ninja could crack 3 hrs, no doubt with a few speeding fines on the way!

Unless there is a secret tunnel I don't know about there is no way you can do it in 3.5 hrs.
5 hrs average including stops and traffic.
