That's a dreadful thing to happen to any young lass anywhere, but when will young travellers realise that this is not the UK? You can't get blind drunk and wander around the streets, especially if you're a female. There are no Community Support Police Officers (or whatever they're called) to make sure that you're safe and pop you in a taxi. This is the real world where you need to be aware of potential dangers and act accordingly. It's not a dangerous place if you play by the (unwritten) rules.

Quite agree. Predatory males are always on the lookout for drunken females. Stupid stupid stupid. Now she's paid the price. What was her boyfriend doing leaving her alone virtually helpless in a foreign country? Is she ever loses control of her senses again, she's foolish.

The first thing - hopefully - is that she dumps the 'boyfriend'. Then begins to get over her ordeal, although many women never do, and it is impossible to imagine the horror of such an attack. Drunk or not, no woman should be brutalised like that, and 'predatory men' who commit rape just because they can should be strung up by their b''''s IMO.
Sadly this case also gives a very bad impression of potential farang teachers in Thailand. I hope she goes home and forgets the dream.

I don't see how we can be so quick to jude the boyfriend, here.

The article states that "Both had been advised to leave the bar because of their condition, it was claimed". It also says that "Police said the girl had become separated from her boyfriend in the street when they were both refused entry to a late-night restaurant because they had been drinking heavily". If they were both drunk enough to be kicked out of one bar and refused entry to another then once they've been parted in a busy area they have next to no chance of finding each other. Who says he didn't go looking for her?

The Pattaya Daily News does: "She told police she had been drinking beer with her Scottish boyfriend at the “Rock 99” restaurant in Thawang market. Then they tried to go into the “Nakorn Viengjan” restaurant behind Robinson Ocean department store. But the security guard didn’t allow them inside, saying that she and her boyfriend were too drunk. So her boyfriend went back to their room, and let her walk around in front of the store alone".
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

For what it's worth, it sounds to me like the boyfriend was only a boyfriend in the loose sense of the word - meaning that it's a convienient word for the police and the press to label what was really just a drinking partner or work colleague. His identity changed from Scottish to South African in The Mail's article. And he remains quote-less. It seems like 2 teachers out drinking. The bloke realises they've had enough and the girl insists on staying out for more. In the end, as they're both pissed they lose track of one another. He imagines that she'll probably be alright if she stays out anyway and decides to call it a night. Some Thai guys ride by and think she's easy pickings. Initially they are friendly and she even flirts abit and becomes abit pally. They say come back with us for drinks and she says fine. Then they all try it on later in the evening and it gets ugly. Of course I'm no "Hercule Poirot", but that's not an uncommon turn of events.
Doesn't say anything in the article about the investigation. I should imagine if they want to find these chaps, they'll be easy enough to route out.

"DID SCOTS ‘RAPE VICTIM’ IN THAILAND 'CRY WOLF' "

Seems there is a lot of contradicting facts.
Even if she was very drunk, I can't think of a motive to cry-rape.
It appears the Thai media are making a bid deal out of this due to the international attention and bad press this story is attracting.

Interesting reading at the bottom too.

I feel sorry for the poor lass and I can understand if she just wants to go home lil lil regardless of pending court obligations.

Man admits raping Scottish woman in Thailand

A man has confessed to raping a Scottish woman who reported being attacked by a group of men in Thailand.
Thai police said the local man had told them he assaulted the woman who was lying semi-conscious outside her room after drinking heavily.

The woman has told a court she cannot identify the man who attacked her early on Saturday morning.

The Foreign Office said it was providing consular assistance to the woman, who wants to return to the UK.

Officers in Nakhon Si Thammarat, in the south of the country, said the woman had been drinking and causing a disturbance and was escorted out of a bar to the room she was renting close by.
She was asked to appear in court to identify the man who admitted assaulting her but she said she could remember very little of what happened.

However, it is likely the man will be charged on the basis of his confession.
