What do you look for in a bar

Post by Jockey »

There have been many bar reviews on this web site and I remember there was a "league table" which gave points for various categories i.e. girls, beer, atmosphere? etc.

It would be interesting to know if the categories which were used are actually the main reasons that really draws a person into a bar. I for one am attracted to a bar depending on its deor, its ambiance and the cleanliness of their toilet. I also lookout for a bar with a good pool table, nice pool cues and of course other congenial people hopefully to play pool with - all using the same pool rules please! I prefer a bar where you do not get hassled from bar girls, so how would this category be rated? Good music with a professional sound system is a major plus. I also like to be comfortable while sitting in my chair (not a stool or bench), particularly while watching football. If I remember correctly, none, or very little of these "qualities" were rated in your past reviews.

The real reason for visiting a bar (I suppose - bottom line - excuse the pun), is to get out the house and meet / talk / have a crack (excuse the pun) with other people. So where do 'other people' prefer to go? If the choice is cheap booze and cheap girls with no care for cleanliness or ambiance then I suspect someone choosing this type of bar is on a one-way mission with one main thing in mind - so no point in putting this punter off the track by chewing the fat with friendly banter. This punter is only "after his hole". - Strange phraseology - surely should be "after her hole" but moving on...

How would your bar do if categorised by the following:

Decor & Ambiance?
Ceanliness?
Toilets?
Congenial host?
Pool table & cues?
Pool competition & clear rules?
Comfort?
TV for sport?
Music?
No bar girl hassle?

I'll be looking for all this too, except swap the pool bizo for family friendly!

My sentiments entirely. It is a pity that there are not more people like Jockey and Hails.

If that were the case Johnnie Walker Bar and Sugar Cane would be packed full every night.

It is an unfortunate fact of life though that with many men "paid to poke pussy" takes preference over pool and Clean Toilets.
Voted the best bar in Hua Hin three years in a row.
Well stocked fridge. Good music, pool, cable and UBC TV. Water features, fish, no hassles no chocolate starfishes.

Great to hear. Unsure if we are on same drift. I am a mother and will be looking for a nice clean bar to hang in to have a few quiets where my daughter won't have her eyes widened further than she should. :D

To Jockey's list I would add darts and other games too. Although, if there are nice people to talk to and with many other things are not that important.

A true rock 'n roll bar would be nice to see. A place with rock music from 70's and up to date, with fitting decor and a well stocked bar. Maybe a jukebox?

Yes, a true rock 'n roll bar.
Good hardware is really missing in HH.
Like a couple of tower B&W connected to an old power amp ...
Play whatever you want on this ... :guns:

"rock and roll" makes me think of Jockey walking around in drapes and crapes wearing copious amounts of brill scream or even chip fat on hs bonse .. any way rock and roll is the tame version of 50's'And 6T"s Black R & B now thats the real Crack
get down to Jw's next sunday for a belly full 7.30 till late

A bar that you can have a chat in without the THUMP THUMP of inane music in your ears.
But more important is a bar that if you find yourself alone and at a loose end you can pop in and find someone to talk to (harder than you think).
Hang on iv'e just described my local back home! dammit. :|

Hey guys and girls,
I agree totally with the state of the available tunes in town. Anyone who wants to listen to proper music can do so at Johnnie Walkers, rock and roll, progressive, soul, motown blues we got it all, sometimes gets a little loud mind! Maybe if enough people are up forr it we will got our own soul monsta to do a night - if the support is there we can crank up the noise, and a bbq to. Let me know what you all think.

Lets not get rock and roll 50s mixed up with rockers 60s. Would be good to see Jockey in a two tone tonic suit. How about somebody organising a themenight.

For me its more the people than the bar, most of us are creatures of habit so tend to frequent the same places. If I'm meeting someone or want to chat to the owner then I'll head to their bar.

Music doesnt really come into it any more since "someone" has been selling these PC jukeboxes to everyone and his mum in town so they're no longer a novelty. :guns:

I do try and get around the places that sponsor HHAD though, just to give a little back.

Girls? Not in Hua Hin
