Need to mail something to Hua Hin

Post by Lee1975 »

I need to send something to Jings in Hua Hin.
Now I have never sent anything to Thailand via mail before and was wondering how reliable it is that the package would arrive?
This package is not expensive and does not need insurance if it's lost and is not big.
Just wondering if anyone has sent anything by Airmail/Airsure etc via post office before and if it got there ok?

Or, Or, Or :) if anyone is flying out to Hua Hin next week or soon from the UK could they possibly take it for me to Jings?
I know I know, bit cheeky, but if you don't ask you don't get!!!

I'd say if it's important enough to ask someone you don't know to deliver it in person (having sent it to them of course), then you should send it by EPS or similar. If not, send it by ordinary post. I've had several packages from family with inexpensive gifts that have never gone astray.

Lee, I've had 100% success sending items from the UK so long as I use a 'signed for' service. I've also had things sent to me that way since I moved here.

In my experience, not using a 'signed for' service reduces your chances of a successful delivery to about 50%.

Have had absolutely no problems sending things via Postal EMS service from U.S. to me here. With EMS someone has to sign for it on delivery and you can also track it on web. Would not trust regular mail but have not had any problems with it either. Guess I may be the exception.

I have been living in SE Asia including Thailand, for over 15 years, I only had two things go missing and thats because I think in UK they sent to Africa not Asia...trust in the post but dont include money, valuables or chocolate

Just a quick update regarding the package i sent.
I sent it by Royal Mail signed delivery to Jings on Wednesday 20th June and it arrived on Tuesday 26th June.
The tracking system online was pretty poor but it got there safely without any damage and very quickly.
pretty straight forward.
Thx for your input folks :)

Nice delivery time. I trialled the postal system before I moved here. Took a letter six days from Germany to my house, happy with that. Had a delivery to the house yesterday - consisted of 14 ITEMS earliest sent from UK on 13 May (also got my Fathers Day card). Post seems to be hit and miss - don't know how long they hold items at the main post office before delivery. Anyone any clues on that...

I've sent 4 or 5 shoebox size parcels, always arrived in under a week.

On another note, the Post Office within Thailand is top class. Bikes, huge boxes etc delivered up to the boonies at great value.

Yes, all they need to do now is get the hang of delivering utility bills and the like...

Is that not the actual utility company, not the post office?

G'day,

shortly, before i left for Thailand I had bought an antique Victorian sword which however arrived too late to be
stored in our container.

Well, it will be mailed from Britain now.
The Antique dealers have to state explicitly that it is only intended for decorative purposes! :tsk:
Not that I would hesitate to use it on an intruder!

Also Thai Customs will charge me a wapping 40% import duty!
