Hua Hin Polyclinic
I understand that the HH polyclinic is closing.
Is this true?

I meant to post this a few days ago.
I've been by it in songthaews numerous times recently at various times of the day and it's been closed every time for probably over a week now.
There are some signs up in the window but can't read them as I'm going by.

SHAME
I've been using the place for 6 years now and it knocked the socks off all the other places in HH. Remember when I had a second stroke the clinic was in touch with hospitals in Khon Kaen, Bangkok and the Petcharat to check previous treatment.
OK, just a clinic but the right doctors there referred if the clinic couldn't handle and usually to Petcharat who are better than any HH 'so called' hospital and not greedy.
I'm OK though as I know my doctor personally and he will treat me (if need be) privately.
Another bit of HH quality gone IMO due to greed or corruption

Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
I did seriously consider using her, but when I looked her up, her expertise did not seem to be in the right fields. I know she is very experienced in other fields, but Bangkok is a long way to go. Charging 500 Baht for a telephone conversation to see if she thinks she can help before you travel also seems a bit extortionate, but I haven't ruled it out yet.Dr Michael wrote:I know one excellent GP in BKK--Dr Donna Robinson.

Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
I wonder why the place is closing as it appears it had a very good reputation and plenty of customers. Dare I say that BHHH bought out the property lease, or hired away the doctors? Getting rid of the competition also applies to the medical profession I guess, just like any other business. Pete

After working for the BKK hospital group for 5 years, I doubt the conspiracy theory/ Both BKK Hospital ans B'grad have a self-image of superiority and I never saw any such activity

I thought the whole point of a GP was that they weren't specialists in any field, but would know enough to point you in the right direction if specialist treatment was needed?Big Boy wrote:I did seriously consider using her, but when I looked her up, her expertise did not seem to be in the right fields.Dr Michael wrote:I know one excellent GP in BKK--Dr Donna Robinson.

Take your point about the 500 baht phone call though!

This is the way
Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
I don't disagree with you on that point, and I still haven't ruled out contacting her. However, I would prefer to find somebody local first.dtaai-maai wrote:I thought the whole point of a GP was that they weren't specialists in any field, but would know enough to point you in the right direction if specialist treatment was needed?
I did look up all of her qualifications, and the particular field of medicine I am looking for (which is quite personal, and very specialised) was not mentioned whatsoever.
If I can't find anybody local in the next 10 days, then I will invest the 500 Baht to start further investigations.

Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
I cry dry tears if it is closing. I have had mixed experiences there. They did have a couple of OK younger GPs who were good at taking care of trivia, but I suspect whose task it was mainly to feed the Petachburi hospital with new patients. However, I understand it did do a lot of good to local patients and that they were affordable to Thais.
They also had a very old doctor. Once i brought him the results of my lab test he starred at the numbers for a long long time. Then he raised his head slowly, looked at me and said: "You are a very sick man". I new that but I just wanted him to check my old test results against the new ones to see whether there was any progress. I left before he fell back to sleep....

Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
Hi
I can confirm that the clinic is closed. Spoke to my long time physician Dr Saran. He is aged but an excellent Dr, old wine etc and experience has to be earned, but back to the point.
All patient records are held at Petcharat Hospital.
You may either continue your treatment at the hospital or call them to mail you a summary of your medical records and seek treatment elsewhere.
Regards
Brian

Re: Hua Hin Polyclinic
Brianhuahin mentioned Petcharat Hospital in Pet'buri..was the Polyclinic not linked to this hospital while it was open? I seem to recall many years ago that when an ex-pat's Thai wife was pregnant THIS hospital was (in it's day) the best 'local' place for deliveries..while weekly checks on the mother & baby done here at Polyclinic..?
Another little gem down the pan..they certainly gave me great treatment when I had Dengue ~ 4 yrs ago..
