Hello, Can anybody advise. I am a Brit married tp a Thai women and we live in Hua Hin.
At the moment I have a 1 year ''B'' non Imm visa, because I work. When it expires I do not intend to work anymore. Can I apply to Hua Hin imm for a 1 year ''O'' visa ? or is it going to be a complicted Bangkok job.

As I understand, you need to retire from present job, then apply to HH Immigration for a marriage extension. Make sure before you resign that you have all the relevant documents ready... Not sure where you where married, but if not in Thailand, you will need to have marriage certificate translated to Thai.RODSTEWART wrote:Hello, Can anybody advise. Bapak gives good advice....if you decide to extend your visa on the grounds of marriage there are a few hoops to jump through...I would begin by taking a few photos of you and your wife in and around the house,immigration will want to see them. The rest I'm sure other members will point you in the right direction.

Yes, a recent example I know of for an extension to marriage visa required several photos of him, wife & children, and also some kind of confirmation document about their half Thai/Farang children. Not sure what doc it was exactly but it was a 10 minute job in that new government building behind the old bill station. To the OP,
You don't mention your age. If over 50 then converting to a Non O on the basis of retirement is a possibility. If that's the case than there won't be any messing around with photos of the family and home or any need for your wife or kids (if any) to be interviewed. In fact, Imm will push you towards that option if you qualify as it's less hassle for them.
I'm assuming tht you may not be of retirement age though.
As you live in HH, you'll need to make the change here not in BKK as your records are here already.
If you can give us a bit more information - age and so on - we'll be able to advise you better.

Main reason that I am pushing Marriage Extension is that I am assuming that you are under retirement age... and also you would be able to get a Work Permit if needed.

I was told you still need Thai bank account with 850,000 THB in it, but on some blogs on the net, they say account outside Thailand is acceptable, anybody know for sure?

If you apply for an annual extension on the basis of retirement then the financial requirements are either 800K THB in a Thai bank account (must be there for 2 months before first application/year and 3 months for subsequent ones) or an overseas income of 65,000 THB a month as evidenced by a letter from your Embassy or a combination of the two as long as the total works out at a minimum of 800,000 THB a year. There is no need for the income to come into a Thai bank account but the savings must be in one.
As you live in HH you should really be doing it here and BKK can send your file down. Talk to Imm here to make sure the process goes smoothly.
As far as cost is concerned, any extension costs 1,900 THB. It's possible that Imm here will want another fee for a change of status but that should only be 2,000 THB. The 25K you've mentioned is exorbitant. If I were you I'd get up to HH Imm and see what they want.
