Sand Fly Prevention.
Sand Fly Prevention.
Having had problems with sand flies in the past while on the beach, some times only being on the beach for short periods of time, can any one recommend any type of cream or potions that can be appiled before walking on the beach to prevent being bitten.
Re: Sand Fly Prevention.
I've always found that spray on sunscreen usually keeps them at bay.

Re: Sand Fly Prevention.
The sting of those miniature flying agents of evil give me grief for weeks after their actual assault and I've found the best thing was Bushmans insect repellent. It appears to destroy everything known to nature and I have seen it strip paint and melts plastic but it works. I bought some in Oz; not sure if you can get it in HH. But Apparently this Aussie home-made repellent is also effective: in a small plastic plant spray bottle mix 50:50 Dettol and baby oil and add a splash of citronella oil or 'Rid' repellent. Smells bad, so you'll repel everything not just sand flies. N.B. Don't get it in your eyes!

I want some Bushman's insect repellent. Only thing that works for me to go when it's windy and between 2 hours after sunrise and 2 hours before sunset.
Re: Sand Fly Prevention.
Perhaps I misunderstand, but you spray something that strips paint and melts plastic directly on your skin???MLS wrote:The sting of those miniature flying agents of evil give me grief for weeks after their actual assault and I've found the best thing was Bushmans insect repellent. I know, it's nuts isn't it?! But because I get a severe reaction to sandfly bites that laugh in the face of milder repellents and I've already got thick, sun-abused skin (it looks like Yushchenko's after the dioxin attack), Bushman's doesn't seem to do any more damage to it - well, not in the short term anyway...
