Car Registration...Change of address

Post by sateeb »

Hi All
Moving to HH shortly...Does anyone know if I have to have a change of address registered in the cars registration book?

Cheers

I think you do, or at least had to before. I had a Bangkok registered pick-up years ago but lived in Chonburi and then Rayong and each year I had to have a Thai friend in Bangkok pay the yearly fees and get the sticker for me. If I recall correctly I had to courier the blue book to him so he could do it. The registered address was his office.

It must be the law thinking about it more, as if an MIB records your plate number as you run over him, the system is only as good as the registration address in order to find you. Pete

Which is a good enough reason not to do it! :rasta:

Since the registration system has been computerised it is not necessary to renew it at the office where it is registered. The last three renewals with our pickup have been done elsewhere, twice in the North, and last year on Koh Samui.

I do not know about the address question, but as your passport, or other ID, has been used originally, then you should be traceable.

I still have a motorbike registered at my old Khon Kaen address and one car registered in BKK.

Here in Pranburi, there's a Thai guy we simply give the documentation and money to and a day later we get the new tax disc back for a service charge of 60 baht per vehicle. Couldn't be easier.

I'm sure there must be someone like this in Hua Hin.

We do it for free for clients that have their 1st or 2nd class insurance with us.
Under the flyover is a garage that does it also for a fee of 100 baht.

Cheers Barry and Nat

Yes there are a few places that do this service for you...however I prefer to do the drive thru for my car.

Barry....Your name was mentioned the other day in KK...I think I arrived in KK just as you were leaving...by all accounts you used to frequent No 1 Bar when mad Geoff Abbott had it.......

Yep, I moved to Khon Kaen in late 2001 and left to come down here at the end of 2004.
No. 1 Bar and Sevens Corner were the only farang watering holes there at the time and most people ended up in no. 1 at some stage - that's where I met Howard, for example.

It was a pretty small and very motley farang crew there back then, though there was an organised Expats Club for a while based at No. 1 bar.

Hi Barry...I moved to KK in June '04 so our paths must have crossed at one time or another.......A lot of us used to hang out at Erics and Svens(Sven passed away a couple of years ago...) We formed a cricket team probably just about the time you were leaving. Will try and look you up when I get down there as I am quite interested in a bit of sea fishing..is that something your company does?

The fishing's not great here but we can certainly sort something out for you.
Just call by once you're here and we can have a chat and a few cold ones reminiscing about KK
